April 29th 2024 (Monday)
A week had passed since their first meeting and since then they hadn't seen much of each other, just small greetings as they passed in the hallway or the elevator. Although Finnley had definitely heard them, just like her landlady had said she would. Not that Finnley minded though, it reminded her that she wasn't completely alone.
Today was seemingly no different as Finnley locked her door behind her as she stepped out into the hallway. She had the day off of work and usually, she would spend that time cooped up in her room playing games and being anti-social. However, she had a letter that she had to send to one of her family members and if she didn't send it today it wouldn't arrive in time so she had dragged herself out of bed and gotten ready.
As she made her way towards the elevator she put in her earphones, selecting a playlist only to skip the first few songs because she didn't feel like listening to them, until she found the perfect one. She was so caught up in her own little world that she didn't notice that someone was calling out her name.
That was until she felt a tap on her shoulder. Flinching and taking out an earphone she spun about to see Tommy hunched over and puffing. "What are you, deaf?", he said catching his breath and shaking his head at her whilst smiling. Finnley laughed softly, "sorry Tommy, I was a bit preoccupied", "I noticed".
"Was there something you needed?" she asked as they both walked towards the elevator together, "not really, I was just going for a walk and I was wondering if you wanted to join me? You know, neighbour bonding? Or something", Tommy reaching his hand up to the back of his neck and rubbed it awkwardly, smiling at her.
"Oh! Well, I just have to go to the post office but I would love to" Finnley said as they stepped into the elevator and she selected the ground floor, hands clutching the letter. "Perfect, I thought that you might've been going to work or something. Where do you work actually?", Finnley smiled, he was so unintentionally curious, not that she minded.
"I work at a cafe down the road, it's called 'Little Things', just making coffee's and serving people, the usual", she smiled fondly, she loved the quaint little cafe, it was quite tucked away so only people who lived nearby knew of it and she like it that way. "Oh! I know that cafe, they have a mean brownie and the merengues are so good as well!", he was beaming down at her, it wasn't quite the answer he was expecting but he was pleasantly surprised.
"I know right! I always have a little merengue if there's some leftover", the two stepped out of the elevator and started making their way out the front door and onto the street. "I'll have to start coming in more often so I can try your hand at making coffee, although I don't like coffee" Tommy paused for a second a look of confusion on his face before he heard Finnley laugh.
"I don't like coffee either, but we do have tea and hot chocolates and stuff like that if you'd prefer those" Finnley looked up at Tommy and smiled softly. As someone who was 6'2, Tommy was taller than Finn but not by heaps and heaps, Finnley was around 5'7 which she considered being on the taller side.
