El's loud alarm pierced threw her ears, telling her to wake up. She was excited for the new year, so she quickly got up to wake up her brother like she promised she would. She shoved his shoulder softly, "Will wake up, it's the first day of junior year!" she smiled. The boy shuffled around in the covers "I don't wanna go." he muttered into his pillow.

Unlike El, Will was dreading going to school. He was never exactly popular you could say but he was pretty smart. As much as Will wanted to stay in bed under the warm covers and avoid human interaction, he slowly got out of bed. "Dad made breakfast before he left for work, it's on the counter." El said before heading to her room to get dressed.

While Will and El were slowly getting ready for school Max found herself getting yelled at by her mother. "God maxine hurry up! Do you always have to mess up everything?" Her mom said from the bottom of the stairs. Max had to fight the urge to yell back at her mother, knowing if she did it would only get her in trouble.

So she quickly went downstairs to eat breakfast, "Sorry mom."

"Don't forget to cover that disgusting mark on your wrist. And don't let anyone see it, you dont want people thinking your a homo do you?" Her mother said, already grabbing a bandages to cover her daughters wrists. Max sighed, "I don't get why it's such a big deal. I mean... I am one."

"No." her mother snapped, "You are just confused. Your marks are obviously messed up or something." she said, placing the bandage over the mark. "Mom— Why cant you just except it?" Max rolled her eyes, sitting down in her chair. Her mom narrowed her eyes, "Because, Maxine. You are just confused." she said, placing scrambled eggs on Max's plate. "Now, I'm heading to work. Don't be late, and i mean it Maxine." she warned, grabbing her things and heading out the door.

"I fucking hate you." Max said under her breathe, and it was true. She despised her mother, she would give anything to have a mom like Joyce or at least a mother that would give two shits about her feelings.

Billy sat down, eggs on his plate, "We both have shitty parents huh?" he let out a sad chuckle.

Max jumped at the sudden noise,"God asshole— you scared me!"

"Jeez Max, what a way to greet your amazing, hot, older brother." Billy joked. She rolled her eyes, "More like a dick i'm forced to live with." she put her dishes in the sink. "If you don't leave soon you're gonna be late, want a ride?" Billy asked.

Max grabbed her skate board, "I'd rather kill myself then ride with you, have a good day at college fuck face."

"You know you love me dumb ass!" Max heard after she had shut the door.

Sure, her step brother was an asshole, but he was the only one who understood.

Max greeted El, Dustin and Will who were waiting on the curb, "Hey guys!"

"Hey Max." they replied, El wrapping her arms around her girlfriend, "Hi! I am so excited for today, i'm trying out for cheerleading after school. Will you wait for me?"

Max nodded, "Yeah of course, you're gonna do great!"

Finally, Mike and Lucas came around the street, "Hey guys, sorry we're late. I had to help my mom with Holy then Lucas' chain broke on his damn bike!"

"That wasn't my fault!"

"Well let's hurry up and get to school losers." Max said, and took El's into her own.

They had been walking for a bit, probably about 5 minutes then El asked, "Did you cover your mark? Mom showed me how do hide mine with makeup this morning. I asked Will if he wanted to cover his but he said no."

Max sighed, "I mean... I don't get why we have to cover our marks." she trailed off.

El stopped, "Max. What if someone finds out? They'd bully us."

"But if we have eachother that should be all that matters right?" Max asked. Now, some people may say Max is a jealous person, but she's never seen it that way. She just hated when people would flirt with El and ask if she was single all the time.

Maybe she was a little jealous. But not THAT jealous.

Now El hadn't been in a lot of relationships, she dated mike and two other people a couple years ago but none of them felt like this one. Max was special, she was her soulmate. El didn't want to screw it up, "Max... you know I love you, we just can't come out right now. Okay? It will keep us safe. I don't get why people are so mean and don't like gay couples but it's just that way. Now come on, we're gonna be late for school." And Max only nodded, intertwining their hands again, "Sorry... I should have thought about you, not just me."

"What no— Max. Don't apologize, I get it, I wish we had could be out too." She assured. Max smiled, she was lucky to have a girlfriend like El.

They were walking in the school parking lot, max wasn't paying much attention until El let lose of her hand and kept walking. Suddenly a boy came up to them, "Hey El! How was your summer?" Max knew exactly who the kid was, he was a douche and had no interest in El's summer. Still, Man stayed quiet.

But El could never take a hint, "Oh my summer was great! Me and my friends hung out and swam, ate loads of food. It was amazing." she smiled. "Oh— well we could go swimming sometime, I have an indoor pool at my house! Me and my friends love it." He said, getting closer to El.

Max was getting annoyed, anyone would seeing a guy flirting with their girlfriend. "El! We have to go, remember. That... thing."

El furrowed her eyebrows, "What thing?" Max rolled her eyes, El really could not take a hint. "The really important thing! Come on." she grabbed onto El's hand and practically dragged her away.

"What thing? Did I forget something important?!"

"No. That guy was flirting with you, it was annoying." Max muttered, trying her best not to seem jealous. "What? No he wasn't? He invited me to swim at his house." El said confused. "Yeah, meaning you would be half naked at his house, alone."

"Oh... I'm sorry max i didn't know! I feel bad now." El hated when Max was upset, especially if she was the reason. "It's okay, I mean I can see why everyone flirts with you." she joked, Max didn't really want to talk about this right now. It was the first day of school.

El blushed, "Shut up, come one let's go." she said, walking into school.

Max and El discovered that they only have lunch and science together, which Max was not happy about. But she still tried to think on the bright side, it was the first day of school after all.

However that brightens was quickly dimmed when Jackson, the guy from earlier, came walking into her first period class and sitting right next to her. "Hey, it's max right?"

She rolled her eyes, she in no way wanted to talk to this guy right now. "Yep. That's me." she said bluntly, her eyes still fixed on the front of the classroom. Jackson narrowed his eyes, "Well I wanted to... ask you something, since you and El seem pretty close you know?"

She huffed, "Well ask away I guess."

The boy was staring to see Max wasn't a big fan of him, still he didn't seem to care that much."R-right. I was just wondering if El's single? I've liked her for a while— I still haven't found my soulmate and, you never know right?"

Max tightly gripped onto her pencil, trying with all her strength not to yell out that El was her soulmate and that they were together. She couldn't do that, what her and El had wasn't normal. "Umm— she has been crushing of this person for a while but she never told me who it was, just that they don't go here. But you could ask her i guess. I don't know." she lied.

Jackson smiled, "You mean ask her on a date?"

"snap!" Max had gripped into the pencil so hard that it had snapped right in her hand. Jackson furrowed his eyebrows, "uh— are you okay?"

"Y-yeah. I have to go to the bathroom." She said, quickly getting up to use that bathroom, not even bothering to ask the teacher.

today was going to be a rough day.
