Everyone else was already laying down watching a movie. El was alone on the floor with blankets and pillows to keep her comfortable. Dustin was lying on the bean bag while Mike and Will were both on the couch. Lucas and Max were coming down the stairs causing the two that were awake to look away from the TV. Max was about to make herself a spot on the floor, away from El but Lucas hit her arm. "Dude, what are you doing?! You are supposed to be getting your girl!"
Max rolled her eyes. She had no hope in getting with El as much as she wished they were together. Max knew El was straight. But she still later down beside her friends, giving her a light smile before giving her full attention to the movie playing.

The two girl's were not paying any attention to the movie Max had just put in. Ironically, they were thinking each other, they would never admit that to one another.
El turned around on her side,"Hey max?"
Max turned to face El "yeah?"
"When we were in the bathroom earlier, you were saying something before Lucas told us tome was up. What were you going to say?" El could feel Max's breathe on her face. El wasn't sure why, but she wanted to close the small gap between them. Lips on lips. But she can't do that. Max is her best friend.
"I was going to say that I um- I like yo-" Max was cut off by lips that crashed onto hers. El couldn't take it anymore. She didn't know what this new feeling she had— but she liked it. Their lips collided, body's against each other, butterflies in stomachs. It was perfect.
Until El pulled out of the kiss all of the sudden. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. I just broke up with mike! Oh my god- my soulmate it can't be a girl. I'm sorry max I have to go!" El was already upstairs before Max could say anything. The girl felt sad. Sad that her crush kissed her and basically said she didn't want her soulmate to be a girl. She doesn't want you Max. Get over it. Max told herself before pulling the covers over her head to muffle the sobs escaping from her mouth.

El was now at home, told Joyce she had a girl emergency and had to rush home. She couldn't sleep. The thought of her lips on Max's kept playing over and over every time she closed her eyes. She enjoyed the kiss. But she wasn't supposed to have feeling for her best friend. She still had a soulmate out there. She wanted to kiss max again but what if max wasn't her soulmate. There was no way her soulmate could be a girl. Right?
Sleep took over her and she soon fell asleep.

time skip: 3 months later (I'm lazy- ik🙄🙄🤚🏼)
It had been months since El and Max shared a kiss in Mikes basement. They never talked about it. El decided to pretend like it never happened, avoiding the situation completely. It was driving Max insane. She had to pretend like El didn't break her heart that night. Just act like it never happened.
Today, was a special day. It was Max's birthday. February 21st. the day a mark would appear on her wrist. She wasn't all that excited. She felt as though no one wanted her. No one would want to be with her.
The party planned to do the same thing they did for El. Have a sleepover on the following weekend if Max's birthday. Max decided that she would cover her wrist until the sleepover, wanting to reveal it with everyone.
Max currently had a blue bandaid on her wrist, Billy had put it on for her. She was not sitting on Bills bed talking to her brother. They had become close over the years.
"Okay I really want to have the same mark as my friend because I have had a crush on them for a long time. But they don't like me back- at least I don't think she doe—"
"Hold on, she?" Billy assumed she had been talking about Lucas.
"uhh yeah... is that okay?"
"So your a dyke huh?"
"do.not. say that word." she snapped at her brother.
"okay- sorry- I shouldn't have said that. So you like girls?"
"yes."
"Oh okay."
"that's it? No I hate you you weird freak?"
"No? I could care less with whoever you like." He pulled a cigarette off of his bed-side table before lighting it.
"thanks billy." she smiled.

the next day
Max, El and Will entered the Wheelers home, ready for the excitement and fun that was in store for their sleepover. Celebrating their friends birthday and revealing her mark on her wrist.
"Hey guys." Will said, sitting beside Mike giving him a smile before Mike wrapped his arm around his shoulder.
Max stood in the middle of the room, she knew what everyone was waiting for she was just nervous. She took a deep breathe before slowly pulling the bandaid off of her wrist. The girl had her eyes closed— too scared to see what was on her wrist. It determined who you were meant with- of course she was scared.
She heard a light gasps from around the room.
The girl looked at her wrist.
A rainbow painted on her wrist.
