What is happening?Hinata and Kageyama walked side by side, following the same route they had followed multiple times that week. Hinata still wore the setter's jacket, which was baggy on their smaller body. The raven haired boy stared straight ahead, his face unreadable. What could be going through his head?
Hinata was having trouble processing the fact that Kageyama had opened up to him– could he still be at Yachi's, sleeping on her floor? Or maybe the whole day had been a long, realistic dream?
As Hinata's house grew closer and closer, a cat began to approach the pair from across the street. Hinata recognized the cat as a stray seemingly taken in by the entire street– many houses had cat food and water placed outside, and some had even made shelters for the cat to sleep in. Hinata noticed Kageyama tense up and step back a little. His face was a mix of disgusted and terrifying.
The cat nuzzled against Hinata's leg, purring. How can I resist such a cute lil cat? They leaned down, scooping the cat in his arms with ease. Kageyama jolted back at the motion, putting his hands up as if to protect himself. "The hell are you doing?!" He questioned. "Are you crazy?"
"C'mon, it's just a cat," Hinata replied, smoothing down the cat's fur. Kageyama scowled, looking away.
"It's a stray. It could have diseases! Or be violent!" Kageyama responded, not meeting Hinata or the cat's eyes. The smaller boy cocked their head, wondering why the cold and collected setter was being so strange.
"Are you afraid of cats?"
"I AM NOT!"
Hinata smiled a bit, placing the cat on the ground once again. It nuzzled against his legs yet again before running towards a food dish. "That one won't hurt you. Everyone here takes really good care if it,"
Kageyama simply scowled in response, reaching out and brushing cat fur off of the jacket Hinata wore. "Cats are evil," he grumbled.
"Really? You're kinda like one, though,"
"The hell is that supposed to mean? I'm not like one of those at all!"
"Well, you're not a dog!"
"That's because I'm a human, dumbass,"
"Shut up," Hinata whined, shoving Kageyama away. "Can we go in already?"
"You're the one who stopped to pet the cat. We could be in already if–"
"Well, you're the one who ran away from it!"
As the pair growled at each other, the front door of Hinata's home swung open as his mother peeked her head out. "You two! Get in before you wake up the whole neighbourhood,"
"Sorry!"
"Sorry Ma!"
They scurried into the home, closing the door softly behind them. Hinata's mom made her way to the sofa, where the tv still played. "Jesus, you better not fight like that all night," she teased.
"No promises," Hinata retorted, which earned them a punch in the arm from Kageyama. Hinata's mom shook her head with a smile, motioning for Hinata to come closer. Hinata told Kageyama to head upstairs and walked towards his mom.
Once Kageyama had gone upstairs, Hinata's mom whispered, "So are you dating yet or what?"
"Mom," Hinata groaned.
"I'm just wondering!"
"No, we're not dating," Hinata stated, walking towards the staircase. Hinata's mom sighed.
