Buzz buzz.

Kageyama groaned, rubbing his eyes and lifting his head from his desk. He couldn't sleep after his impromptu practice with Hinata– he tossed and turned the whole night, thoughts of him telling Hinata who he was consuming his mind. He couldn't figure out why he was so scared to tell Hinata he was Meanie, but just thinking about it stressed him out.

He grabbed his phone lazily, looking at his notifications with tired eyes. The contact name Carrot Top bore into his eyes. Normally, a text from Hinata would've relieved his stress. Now, it just brought him more worry.

Carrot Top: I can't find my classroom

Carrot Top: im gonna die

Kageyama: that's a little dramatic

Carrot Top: obviously. It's me

Kageyama smiled into the crook of his arm. As he did so, the classroom door swung open.

Carrot Top: OMGOMGOMG

Carrot Top: kill me🧍‍♂️

Kageyama: that's illegal

Carrot Top: the cute guy from yesterday is in my class

Carrot Top: howdoitalktohim

Kageyama's cheeks felt warm as he read those texts. He still couldn't get over the fact that Hinata thought he was cute, for some reason.

Kageyama: didnt you spend hours with him yesterday

Carrot Top: yeahhhhhhh but I was on a volleyball high

Carrot Top: aweeeee he's blushing for some reason

    Fuck.

Kageyama: don't stalk the cute guy

Kageyama: just talk to him dumbass

This is weird, Kageyama thought. He'd never coached someone on talking to a cute person, much less on talking to himself.

He hated pretending to be someone else in that moment. He felt so guilty, like he was betraying Hinata's trust.

    He probably was.

Carrot Top: wish me luckkkkkk

"Who you talkin to?" Hinata's voice rang from behind him. Kageyama jumped, shutting his phone off quickly.

"Don't sneak up on me," he grumbled. Hinata plopped themselves in the empty desk next to Kageyama. Kageyama slapped his phone on the desk face down and buried his head in his arms. "I was texting a friend."

"Is this friend on the team?" Hinata asked. Kageyama felt a stab of guilt once again.

"No," he lied. "They don't go here."

How much better would Kageyama feel if he told Hinata the truth? He wasn't sure if he'd feel better or worse.

"Someone's grumpy,"

"I didn't sleep,"

"Oh," Hinata said, almost sounding worried. He was silent for a moment, what sounded like desk tapping coming from their direction. "I'll wake you up if the teacher's coming our way."

Kageyama peeked over at Hinata just above his arms, mumbling a thanks before resting his head once again. As he drifted to sleep, all he could think about was how good Hinata was to him, and how much he'll hate himself if he keeps the secret for much longer.
