Deep darkness had surrounded the pebble covered streets and surroundings of foggy Wiltshire, a slight breeze nestling through the leafless tree branches leaving an echo of a swishing sound through the frozen air. Covered in the woodland avenue, as hidden as any rock covered building in these parts, was a mansion.
Its large dust-covered windows were not allowing any ray of light outside, the inside was completely blackened. The greyish rocks that made up the mansion were covered in dark green ivy, reaching all the way up to the rooftop. It seemed abandoned yet the large front garden seemed to suggest otherwise as they were kept perfectly in place.
The mansion laid there, the nature surrounding it had completely embraced it, that the plants, flowers and leaves flowed into the building seamlessly. It was enclosed within brick walls, surrounded by a moat surmounted by a wooden drawbridge. The manor was also equipped with small porters and towers. Yet the main feature of the hidden somewhat abandoned looking manor was its great hall.
It seemed like the hall of the manor was the main meeting point of a royal family, used for eating and relaxing. It was a rectangular room three times as long as it was wide and higher than wide. Furthermore, it had the dusted covered windows on both of the long sides. At the other end of the hall was a raised platform where the high table was situated, in front of a big dark-coloured brick fireplace.
The fireplace lit up in bright orange and yellow tones, a shining light painting the room into a faint tint. Out of the fireplace stepped a tall, muscly manly figure, wiping off the excess powder on his shoulders. Gavin carefully put down his golden crested brown suitcase beside him as he stepped down the now dirty fireplace. His hand travelled up and rolled back the sleeves of his suit as he checked the room for other people. A faint wheeze left his mouth as he shook his head in frustration.
Up until this very moment, he had only been in his new manor home in Wiltshire for two weeks, shortly before the start of his school term in Hogwarts on the first of October. It still seemed foreign to him, as if it wasn't where he was supposed to be, his instincts telling him to run. He passed through the hall through the corridor into his room without looking around again - not a trace of his parents around anywhere.
It was Christmas. Gavin didn't expect any celebrations, decorations or gifts yet his parents not even being at home really brought his excitement to a new low. As he passed the heavy entrance door to his room, he noticed their house-elf Vokey who was cleaning the wooden floor with a tiny broomstick.
