I woke up slowly, as if my eyelids were weighted. My head throbbed - a deep, pulsing heaviness - and lifting myself from the bed felt like dragging my body through sand. My mouth tasted like regret and last night's alcohol, so I forced myself up and stumbled into my bathroom.

Cold water hit my skin like tiny needles. I brushed my teeth aggressively, hoping mint would beat the alcohol fumes clinging to my breath. As soon as I finished my routine, my phone started vibrating nonstop.

I jogged back to my room, and Meg's face filled my screen the moment I answered.

"KY!!"

I flinched. "Oh my God, that was so loud. Good morning to you too."

"Look." She spun her iPad around. A photo of me and Caleb from last night flashed on the screen - us holding hands, walking toward the exit.

"They posted it already?" I groaned, flopping backwards onto my bed.

Honestly, I could've slept the entire day.

"Girl, you looked smoking hot. Did you get a boo?" Meg teased.

"Stop it, Meg. There were old people only. I think I was the youngest one there."

She giggled - then froze. "Oh My God Ky... they're saying you're dating your brother."

I blinked. "What?"

"People don't know he's your half brother, Ky. And you thought he was just some guy when you first met, but he's not. He's like... really well known."

Right. He worked with Mr. McGregor. And that old man was basically paparazzi royalty. Every journalist ever had written about him, now it makes sense.

"Wow."

"Yes, wow is correct." Meg's eyes widened as she scrolled. "Ky... they don't buy the half-sibling story."

"What do you mean? It's not a story. It's true."

She showed me her iPad again. Headlines. Photos. Comments.

"Wait," I muttered, sitting up. "Hold on."

I grabbed my laptop from the nightstand. My fingers flew across the keyboard.

I googled: Caleb Davison latest news.

The man was everywhere. Articles. Interviews. Photos. Business panels. How had I never seen any of this?

"You barely check gossip sites."

Right.

"WHAT?!" I shouted. "Caleb Davison, 27, finally shows his GIRLFRIEND to the world. BOTH DAVISONS - Illegal or legal?" I stared at Meg. "Am I hallucinating or is this actually on the internet?"

"Ky... the entire world is seeing it."

My stomach dropped. I clicked another article.

"Kyla Davison, shortly after her parents' death, spotted flaunting her boyfriend."

A video played below it - some woman commenting as if she personally lived inside my business.

"Is sleeping with your cousin allowed? They're both Davisons. Maybe they're related, maybe they're not. Maybe they're just lying. You decide."

I slammed the laptop shut so hard the noise echoed.

Really? Cousins now? These people needed hobbies.

"Meg, I have to go." I hung up and marched straight to Caleb's room, laptop tucked under my arm. I pounded on his door. "Caleb! Open up!"

Nothing.
