"Kyla"-please go away.
"Kyla, wake up."
"Noooooo, go away, it's still earlyyyy." I mumbled, dragging the blanket over my head, but she yanked it off like she had a personal vendetta.
"Kyla, get up right now. You're running late."
Rose really sounds like a mom right now.
"What time is it?" She shoved her phone in my face.
"What?!!! Oh my God!!" I launched out of the bed and sprinted to the bathroom-then froze. "Rose! Did you clean my bathroom? Like... change things?" Or am I still dreaming?
"This is not your room!"
Oh. Shit.
I ran to my room, straight into my bathroom, mentally screaming. I'm so gonna be late. Emma, why didn't you wake me up? Emma!
...Nothing. She's not here.
Perfect. Just perfect.
I washed, brushed my teeth, threw on my uniform, shoved my books into my bag, and bolted downstairs. One glance at my watch-
7:46 AM.
Okay. I can still make it.
"Kyla!"
I turned. Rose again. "Your breakfast."
"Seriously? I'm late. No time." But she giggled and walked over, handing me a lunchbox.
"You can eat in the car."
Oh. Right.
"Thank you! Bye!" I yelled as I flew out the door. Jerry was already waiting in the car.
Perfect timing.

"Hey." I dropped down next to Megan after our exam. She looked crushed. "What's wrong?"
"My parents."
My heart sank. "What happened? Are they okay?"
She stared at the students playing basketball. Bryan was getting yelled at for being late, looking exactly how I looked this morning stumbling into school.
Thankfully, I still made it in time for my exam. But honestly? Every day I pray it's my last day here. I'm exhausted-body, brain, feelings... everything. I need a vacation. Maybe I'll drag Megan with me. That would actually be fun.
"They told me we're going to Italy to meet my mom's family."
"Okay, that's not bad news. You've always wanted to meet them."
She looked at me, eyes sad. "Ky, if I go... I won't be able to come to your house. I'll be gone the whole summer."
Oh.
Yeah... that's bad news.
"I'm sorry, Ky. I begged them to give me at least a week, but they already finalized everything."
Now I regret every sleepover I said "next time" to. This sucks. No Megan. Hannah will be stuck in summer school. Alec still isn't talking to me-and at this point, I'm okay with it. His choice.
'What about Deveon?'
'Emma. Shut up. And you didn't wake me up this morning hence I was almost late since I had left my phone in my room and didn't hear the alarm.'
'I'm sorry Kyla, I lost track of time.'
'Who loses track of time when they literally see the sunrise? That should've reminded you of something.'
"Ky!"
I jumped. Megan's voice could resurrect the dead.
"Sorry. I was thinking." I told Meg.
