My Sunday morning started with this soft, warm glow I couldn't shake off even if I tried. It was ridiculous, honestly. My whole body still felt like it was floating somewhere above Earth after last night's chaos, and for once, I didn't care what Caleb or literally anyone else would think. I didn't even have the energy to pretend I wasn't happy.
I walked into the kitchen humming under my breath and slid into the chair across from my brother.
"Good morning, brother," I said, sounding way too cheerful for a Sunday.
Caleb looked up from his bowl, fork halfway to his mouth, eyes squinting at me like I was an alien.
"Good morning, Kid," he said slowly.
I smiled. He kept staring.
"What?"
He chuckled, shaking his head, "The sudden change of mood is very surprising, trust me."
I nearly blushed. Yeah... I knew exactly why my face looked like some kind of romantic-movie filter right now.
"It's a beautiful day today, dear brother. Can't you see outside?"
He gave me a side-eye. "Let me guess... he kissed you?"
My heart literally forgot what beating was for a second. My smile collapsed as if someone unplugged it.
"You can't even deny it," Caleb laughed, leaning back. "Relax, Kid. No need to be embarrassed. As long as he treats you right - and clearly he's doing a good job - look at you. You're glowing like some Disney character who just got her true love's kiss."
I popped a berry into my mouth just to avoid answering.
"How did you find out?"
Did Zach tell him? Did he snitch? After acting all scared last night?
Caleb shrugged. "It was obvious. You had dinner with his family, came home late, and then this morning you're all sunshine and rainbows. That Moore boy of yours really makes you happy."
...Wait. Moore boy?
Oh.
He thinks it's Deveon.
Perfect.
"Well, he is a good one," I said lightly. "How about you?"
"Me?"
"Your girlfriend," I added casually. "You know, the one in..." I tilted my head, pretending to recall.
"London," he said quickly - too quickly.
I smirked inside. Oh, Caleb.
You want to play? Let's play.
"What's her name?"
He choked on his berry so hard I almost apologized to God for asking.
"You okay?" I asked sweetly.
"Yeah," he croaked. "Yeah, I'm okay. What were you asking again?"
"My love, your girlfriend's name."
He blinked, regrouped, and said, "Leah."
Uh-huh. Sure. Lying must run through our DNA like eye color.
"Nice name," I said with a thoughtful nod. "I'd love to see her one day. I can imagine she's beautiful. You seem like someone who would fall for a gorgeous woman. Do you maybe... have a picture?"
"A... picture?"
I nearly clapped.
Checkmate.
He stared at me for a whole five seconds before slowly smiling.
Oh no.
This smile was not a good sign.
"You know," he said. "That's why you're suddenly so invested in my relationship. You figured it out."
Ugh. Damn it. It was getting so good.
