Of course it didn't last for a second before Michael turned around and caught me staring at him and his friend.
"Remind me again why do I have to look at your face once again?", he taunted.
At this his friend also turned to look at me. I have no clue who he was but I'm pretty sure he must be someone close to him since this house was off limits for most people.
I don't know why but I expected anything but I still got shocked when that arrogant jerk started insulting me in front of an outsider too. I obviously wasn't going to hold back but at the same time, unlike him, I was going to save myself some dignity.
"Because your father is a good person and he lets you stay here when you can't at your own house."
With this I walked straight to the kitchen without sparing a glance to either of them. I mean I was definitely rude to the other guy since I didn't even have the decency to say hello to him but can you really blame me?!?
Moreover, I had something very important to do today... I have to call Sid and Aish... and I can't risk spoiling my mood again.
I decided to make myself some chai just to get the homey vibes. I was halfway through when the other guy in the living room walked in.
He looked at me as if he was not expecting me in here but his eyes were not judgy.
"I was just in here to take some snacks", he said making the awkward air very prominent.
"Oh yeah, sure, please go ahead" I said trying to let out the best forced smile I could manage.
"I'm Sam by the way. I'm Mike's friend. Sorry about him, he can be a real dick sometimes." It's so good to finally hear this from someone else's mouth.
"Sometimes?" I questioned and he just laughed. I extended my hand, "I'm Sanyukta. It's nice to meet you Sam."
We shook hands and just then the chai started boiling. I decreased the temperature to let it simmer and Sam stood there observing this.
"What are making? I've never seen something like this" Sam asked me.
"This is chai, our tea."
"Wait chai as in the Starbucks type?" By then the chai was ready so put the filter and poured into my cup and held it in front of him.
"Why don't you answer that question yourself?" I told him while motioning him to taste it.
Now I make a pretty sick cup of chai... I'm basically a pro but I wasn't sure that was something the regular English taste buds would like.
As soon as Sam took the first sip, his eyes got wide open, "What the fuck? This is so so goddamn delicious." He looked at me as if he could not believe what he had just tasted.
"You like it?" I got excited. It's always fun when people like something you've made. Plus, this is chai, like come on, of course I have full right to be happy.
"Are you fucking kidding me? I absolutely love this! Starbucks should be ashamed that they tried to play with this treasure."
Sam uttered this perfect words to which all I could reply was, "Welcome to the club!"
"I'm sorry Sanyukta but I can't give you this cup back now" he said struggling with my name.
"Oh don't worry. I'll make myself another. That cup of chai is all yours. Also, you can call me Yukta."
He let out a 'phew' sound, "Thank God! I swear my tongue literally rolled in different ways while trying to say you name and brain couldn't comprehend all that stuff. Yukta is so much easier. But you know what, you are my Chai Goddess, so, I'm gonna call you..." he kept going through different permutations and combinations before saying, "Chaiess".
I burst out laughing at his suggestion.
"No Sam! That is terrible." I said at cooled down.
"Yeah you're right! I'll come up with some nice though... till then Yukta it is."
