Shit! It's 7:30!
Don't panic Sanyukta. You can reach there in time.
Yes I can. I can. I can? I can... no doubt.
I quickly get off my bed and take of one of the quick showers I've grown accustomed to. How couldn't I? Being a lawyer has taught me how to take away time from all the small things that relax you and put all your focus on saving your clients.
I put on my kurta, grab my watch and my bag and quickly come down the stairs.
"Sanyukta don't you even think of skipping your breakfast. I don't care if you're late", Ma shouts from the kitchen.
"Ma, I'm really sorry. I need to reach the office in an hour. I'll have something at the office, I promise."
She comes out of the kitchen with a small box in her hand, "I knew you would say this. Seriously, Yukta try to slightly lower down the burden of your work and sleep on time. I know you must have pulled out an all-nighter to go through those files you brought home yesterday which is why you're late. Now take this and don't you forget to eat this on time."
I quickly hug her just to communicate how thankful I am for everything she does for me and grab my car keys before heading out.
I'm 26 years old and today marks the completion of fourth year of me working at my office. Luthan & Co. is one of the leading law firms in the country. The firm and its people have become my family but the best part of this office is our Managing Partner, Mr. Ahluwalia. Mr. Ahluwalia is my idol, my mentor and my pillar. He is not only the absolute best at what he does but what makes him special is the way he treats others and especially his juniors with utmost respect which is one of the reasons the lawyers at the firm are so loyal to him. He makes this workplace a home for us, needless to say he is family to us.
I had known of Mr. Ahluwalia during my law school and had always wanted to intern under him. Turns out the stars did favour my hardwork and I finally got to do internship at Luthan & Co. after an year of trying to get a spot. I returned again during the next semester break to intern at the office and this time luckily I got to work with Mr. Ahluwalia on a case. After that period of internship, he offered me to come back again during my next break and this time he handed me a pre-placement offer to work at the firm as soon as I complete my next and final semester of law school. Four and a half years of law school, countless internships and competitions had finally led to this moment. That day was one of the happiest me and my family had ever been.
I park my car in the lot and enter through the gates of the beautiful building I get to call my workplace. Just as I'm thanking my stars for helping me reach on time Lily runs up to me, "Sir wants to meet you."
Lily is Mr. Ahluwalia's personal assistant and literally a perfection. Lily has been here longer than I have and there hasn't been a single day when she hasn't brought her positive energy with herself at Luthan. She's the funniest and one of the most loyal and reliable persons you'll ever meet.
"Now? Do we have a new case Lily?"
"Maybe" she pauses, "I actually don't know. But it's definitely something important." Wow! If Lily doesn't know anything then this something strictly confidential because she literally knows everything about everything and everyone.
"Okay Lily, Let's go then."
