I found my palms slightly sweaty as I knocked on Mr. Ahluwalia's door.
"Come in."
Mr. Ahluwalia was facing the window when I entered which was quite an unusual scene in itself since he's mostly engrossed in papers when he's not talking to either his clients or his employees. Something was definitely up, I could sense it.
"Good Morning Sir. You wanted to see me?"
"Ah yes Sanyukta! Please take a seat." I sat down as he instructed Lily to not disturb him till the time his conversation with me isn't complete. Okay, something was definitely not right.
"Sir is everything alright?", I ask him unable to keep it within me any longer.
"Honestly? No Sanyukta." I slightly furrowed my eyebrows.
"So I have a friend", he continued, "you've probably heard his name, Mr. Charles Daniels."
The name struck a chord in my brain but I wasn't sure. "I'm not sure, Sir. The name does sound familiar though", I replied.
"That's understandable. Charles and I have known each other since I was in college and we have been pretty close ever since. Even though he is in London and I'm here in Delhi, we've tried not to let the distance hamper our friendship. We had even assisted him when he was planning to spread his business overseas by establishing a branch of his office here in Delhi." I instantly realized why the name sounded familiar. I was working on Mr. Daniels in my college days when I was doing my internship with Mr. Ahluwalia. He continued, "What you probably don't know is that he has a son who is approximately your age and he's in quite a soup right now. Even though I never met the kid, I know he's a really good person and doesn't deserve what he's going through."
"So, he is in legal trouble and Mr. Daniels requires our services for his son?", I ask him still not understanding why Mr. Ahluwalia seemed troubled. Was it only because he was concerned about his friend's son or was there something more?
"At the outset, yes. Yes, he needs my help. But I feel you should know the details to understand the gravity of this situation. The thing is that this kid is going through a lot. He has a budding career in front of him and he has already spent a lot of years in the limelight earning him enemies in the light of friends. He is in a big trouble this time which has kept his career, his life and the lives of everyone close to him on stake. Charles is really worried about him and neither Charles nor his son can trust anyone with this right now. Charles can easily hire any attorney in London right now but that attorney can turn out playing for the opposite party. The other party is not just loaded but also powerful. This is why Charles has reached out to me. he knows he can trust me and no one will ever guess that he's hired someone from Delhi to represent his son."
Even though I don't know Mr. Daniels son personally, I felt really bad for him. But I had one really big question in my head.
"Sir, I'm really sorry to hear all of this. I believe you want my assistance in this matter and I would gladly help in any manner I can. I just want to ask a question. Who is he, as in, who is Mr. Daniel's son? You said he's been in the limelight and that the opposite party is really powerful but why are they they after him? Who is he?"
