Chapter 9: Magical Ability

[Y/N POV]

Holbrooke: Ok Y/N, let's get you started. Here is your wand. This will be the wand you use in lessons and ceremonies.

She hands me a wand that looked exactly like the ones I had seen tied around the waist of all the students. I take a brief look at it and look back at her.

Holbrooke: Ok now simply just try and repair this old shoe here.

She puts and old shoe on her desk and I point my wand at it and shut my eyes. When I open my eyes I could see that nothing happened. I was a little confused and upset that it didn't do anything.

Holbrooke: Haha! No need to look so upset! I just wanted to see what you would try to do without instruction.

I pout and shake my head.

Holbrooke: Ok in all seriousness, say this when you point your wand. Sosomme Tidiare.

I nod my head and look back at the shoe and point my wand at it.

Y/N: Sosomme Tidiare!

I watch as the wand shoots out green light and works it's way around the shoe. When it dies down I could see that it had sort of repaired it but it was still kinda broken.

Holbrooke: Good start. I can see that there will need to be a bit of work done to get you up to scratch, but still a good start!

I nod my head and sit back down. I will admit I was feeling a little down that it didn't work but I knew that I had a long way to go.

Holbrooke: Now that I know you have the potential I can now put you in a class! Don't be too intimidated by being behind. There are those who will be there to help you catch up.

Y/N: O-ok.

The next thing she does is bring out a rat in a cage and place it on the desk.

Holbrooke: Alright then Y/N! Next up, metamorphosis magic! It's really simple once you get your head around it! Now all you have to do is repeat these words, Metamorphie Facissse. Oh and imagine what animal you want to turn it into!

I nod my head and point my wand at the rat in the cage.

Y/N: Come on Y/N. First try you can do this!

Y/N: Metamorphie Facissse!

I opened my eyes hoping to see the animal that I had wanted to appear. I was hoping for it to be a rabbit. But the bars of the cage were now melting and the rat was gone.

Y/N: O-oh w-whoops.

Holbrooke: It's no harm done Y/N. You are still learning! These things do happen.

Y/N: D-Did I-I k-kill it?

Holbrooke: I'm sure it didn't feel a thing Y/N.

Y/N: B-But i-it w-was a-a living thing...

I looked at my wand and then back at the headmistress.

Holbrooke: Like I said, you're learning. And accidents do happen.

I nod my head and sit back down. I did feel really bad that I had killed an innocent creature. I hope it really didn't feel anything!

Holbrooke: Well then, I guess you do have the potential. Now let me just get your classes all sorted out.

As I was waiting for her to do all this I could hear a faint little squeaking sound coming from somewhere. When I looked around I could see what I hoped to be the rat from the cage. It must have escaped!

Y/N: I-it's alright!

It moves a little closer to me and tilts its head while scratching behind its ears.
