My eyes flicker up to a pair of hazels that are staring at me so intensely I can feel it all the way to my soul. I let go of the door to my red beauty, folding my arms over my chest and giving the best I-don't-give-a-fuck-about-you face I can muster.
"Fine. You wanna talk? Let's talk."
Knight looks around for a brief second before shaking his head. "Not here."
My eyebrows inch up into my hairline before he elaborates. "Please. Can we just go somewhere. There's a lot I need to get off my chest and I don't need other people jumping in on shit."
I look around seeing eyes following us from every direction. He's right. We do need to talk and the last thing I need is one of these bitches walking up and putting their two-cents in it or us getting heated and everyone dragging out their phones to blast our tiff on social media. Rolling my eyes I nod my head in agreement.
Knight lets out a slight breath of relief before nodding. "I got a place where we can go," he takes out his phone, checks the time and sends out a text before looking back at me. "You wanna follow or you wanna hop in?"
I scoff. "Yeah. No thanks. I'll follow you. Last thing I need is to get pissed off and then stuck in a damn car with you."
"Right." He looks down avoiding my eyes and I almost wonder if he's hurt that I don't want to be in the same car with him. When his eyes meet mine again he nods in the direction of his black baby. "Just follow me then, okay?"
"Yup." I pop the p before turning back around to my car and getting in. My hands clench and unclench on the steering wheel as my mind wanders with possibilities of what Knight is going to say. I watch as his ass sways in those tight jeans as he walks toward his car. The way they tighten and mold to his thighs as he steps into his seat and the slight glance he gives over his shoulder to make sure that I'm ready to follow him. My heart kicks up a notch thinking of the way his body looks without clothes. The way his tattoos lay across his perfectly toned muscles. The look in his eyes when he glanced down at me as he filled me to the brink.
My thighs clench together at the memories but I'm startled out of my daydreams when Knight beeps his horn to get my attention. I roll down my window as he gives me a sly smirk.
"You comin' or are you to busy day dreamin'?"
Rolling my eyes at him I gesture for him to go before I shift into first and begin to follow. It takes about twenty minutes before we're pulling onto a dirt path that has me scanning my surroundings. There's nothing but woods.
A cemetery comes into view on my right and in an instant all of the horror movies I've ever watched play through my mind. Is this the part where he kills me and buries my body in the woods where no one can find me? I shake my head, silently laughing at the crazy thoughts. I've known Knight almost my entire life. Sometimes I think I know him better than anyone else. Well, at least, I did know him better than anyone else. Regardless, I know for a fact that no matter how much we've changed he's not a psycho killer. I hope.
It's nothing but darkness as we drive down the long path. The shine from our headlights only reaching so far before Knight pulls off to the side just behind a chained fence. I follow suit leaving my car in neutral while I look around. Knight gets out before heading over to me and knocking on the window. I roll it down narrowing my eyes at him.
"You comin'?"
"Where the hell are we?"
He chuckles, the warm sensation in my stomach from the sound pissing me off. "Come on, you'll see."
I don't say a word as I keep my eyes narrowed and stare him up and down. He only laughs more which has me biting down on my lower lip. Knight reaches for my door opening it. "Come on Skye Light, I promise nothing will happen to you."
I let out a huff before turning the car off and getting out. At least there's a signal out here so if anything does happen at least I'll be able to make a call.
The second I'm standing Knight nods toward the chained fence before saying, "Come on, it's not much further."
I swallow down the nerves building inside me before tentatively following him. The dirt road turns into grass the farther we get. Soon enough we reach a small hill with two giant bolders. Knight looks back and nods toward them silently telling me to sit. Once I'm comfortable on the cold stone I look out and my jaw drops open.
Down bellow is a race track. Two strips of pavement set up with flashing boards for the racers to tell them their times, speeds and the red and green lights for when to hit the gas. There's a chain linked fence surrounding the racetrack to protect the audience from getting too close and there's bleachers set up on either side of the race track. My body buzzes with adrenaline as I watch two cars ease up on the starting line. A dark blue mustang is versing a purple Audi R8. The bright spotlights shining down to give us the perfect view of the entire track as I watch the oversized traffic light change from red to green.
I lean forward, anxiously waiting to see who's going to win as the sound of their engines drift through the air. We can hear the audience yelling from here and it gives me tingles all over my body at the adrenaline runs through my veins. I've always loved cars, it's in my blood, but there's something about racing that draws me in. Whether I'm the racer or not I get a high from it. It fuels me in a way and I feel like I'm floating.
My hearts beating a mile a minute as I watch the R8 pass the finish line leaving the mustang in the dust. The audience leaps to their feet screaming in both encouragement and outrage. No doubt people are placing bets down there. When I glance over at Knight he's staring at me with a smirk on his face.
"What?"
He shrugs. "Nothing. I've just never seen you look this happy."
I roll my eyes at him looking away. "Yeah well, you know I'm into cars." I shrug like it's no big deal. "Why did you bring me here, Knight?"
"It's private."
I look around at the woods surrounding us. "Yeah. A little too private."
When my eyes return to his he lets out a laugh shaking his head. "Yeah well. I wanted to talk where we wouldn't be interrupted. And, you know," he shrugs, "you're like the only person I know who would enjoy something like this."
"What about the guys? They don't like racing?"
"They do. It's just...not the same."
I look over at him wondering what he means but his eyes are focused on the track below. My eyebrows pinch together trying to figure out what's going on with him. When he doesn't look back at me I decide to follow his lead and watch the races.
We're quiet for so long that I'm about to ask him why he even brought me out here to talk when Knight lets out a heavy sigh. My head whips toward his as I watch him close him eyes. My heart starts racing but nothing could have prepared me for the words that come out of his mouth.
"Why Ian?"
"What?"
Knight turns toward me, hurt and anger filling his eyes. I almost gasp as I lean back away from him.
"Was I not good enough? Was I not enough period?"
My eyebrows knit together confused as all hell about what he's talking about. I don't get the chance to ask him that question though, he must see it on my face, because he continues his voice getting louder.
"Why did you leave me right after we slept together to go hook up with Ian?!"
