My jaws locked the entire drive to the party. My mind spinning with every little word Maddie had dumped in my lap. I shouldn't let it get to me, shouldn't let her get to me but she got under my skin and she knew it. My mind drifts back to the conversation she had when she sat down unwelcome at the booth.

"Maddie." She smiled wickedly at my tone. Her sick happiness only agitated me more. I knew she was here to cause trouble.

"Glad to see the dates going well." She flickered her brown eyes down at my ice cream before taking a spoonful of Knights and sucking on it like it was some sort of porn show. I grimaced as my fists moved off the table to ball at my side.

"What are you doing here?"

"You know, it's actually kind of sad," Maddie whispers around a mouthful of mint chocolate chip. Gesturing around with her hand she says, "that you think this is real. That Knight would actually want to be with you."

My eyes narrow on her which only made her chuckle. "Oh you didn't know? He told us all about his little plan."

My eyebrow raises in an attempt to draw out the rest of her bullshit. She's insane if she thinks I'd fall for this.

Another bite of ice cream and an evil smirk before she continues. "Finding out your dad died almost made him rethink his plan. Hell, even you telling him that Ian allegedly forced himself on you...that was a good one by the way," I open my mouth to protest but then decide she's not worth it. "He didn't fall for it though. Knights a lot smarter than that."

Maddie places the spoon back into Knight's ice cream and leans forward attempting to act like the baddest bitch around. Little does she know that I own the fucking title.

"You think he'd wanna be with some run down piece of trash," she makes a show of looking me up and down, "an orphan, who's aunt barely has time for her?" Maddie scoffs and I have to bite the inside of my cheek not to slam her face down on the table right now.

She smirks realizing that she's getting to me. Her voice drops to a whisper as she says, "Did he tell you we hooked up the day you showed up at school? That he concocted this plan for revenge with his boys and my click? That he plans to humiliate you in front of everyone? Did he tell you what his new tattoo means?"

My jaw ticks, anger boiling and ready to explode to the surface when a dark figure arrives at my side. Knight.

I blink a few times as we approach a red light. I think we're getting closer because we're no longer on the highway.

"Wanna talk about it?"

"Huh?" I look over at Knight, his face laced with caution.

"Whatever it is that Maddie said?"

I scoff, shaking my head as his fingers tighten on the wheel. "Nope."

Knight let's out a sigh which makes me turn in my seat to face him. Eyes narrowed I ask, "What does your tattoo mean?"

"What?" He chuckles which only makes me angry.

"What's it mean?"

Knight smiles, turning toward me for a second before looking back at the road and putting the blinker on to turn into a development. "You'll figure it out, Skye light."

I roll my eyes before turning away from him. What the fuck does it mean?! Maddie seems to fucking know, or does she just want me to think she does?

Letting out a heavy sigh we pull up to the curb and I practically jump out of the car to breathe in some fresh air. Knight rounds the car as I begin to walk toward the raging house. "I need a fucking drink."

"Alright," he drags out the word, eyeing me cautiously as he follows me into the threshold.

Loud music blares from the speakers and a swarm of bodies stand around with solo cups and beer bottles. Some people are making out like they're not visible to the world while others pass around blunts. My eyes scan my surroundings before I find what I'm looking for: the kitchen.

Hastily moving I shoulder check about a hundred people before I make it to the makeshift bar. Grabbing an empty cup I pour in a splash of clear liquid and then grimace as I swallow it down in one go.

"God, that's disgusting," I choke out trying to get rid of the burn in my throat. I turn around and find Knight holding up a water bottle for me to take. I roll my eyes before opening the cap and downing half of it. Damn him for knowing me so well!

"Feel better?"

"A little," I let out a huff looking down. Knight moves closer to me, his arms wrapping around my waist before bringing one up under my chin, pushing up just enough to get me to look at him.

"We good?"

I want to tell him yes but my mouth has a mind of it's own. "Did you tell Maddie about my dad?"

"What?" Knight takes a step back. Shock plastered on his face.

My eyes narrow as I try to watch him for any other reaction. "Did you. Tell Maddie. About my dad? About his death?"

"No. No, I-"

Knights words get cut off by a squeal from a familiar, unwanted voice. "Oh my God, there you guys are!" Knights eyes fly toward the sound of the voice, mine following. And we're met with the pleasant sight of Maddie in a tight, almost skin like blue dress. When in the hell she had time to change I have no idea. Her long talon fingers glide across Knight's shoulder blade as I swallow down a growl.

"So glad I got to bump into you again!" Maddie looks between me and Knight, her smile turning into something devilish. My eyes are focused on the bitch in front of me when suddenly big arms wrap around her waist and someone bend down making a show of kissing her. I roll my eyes as she giggles and swats at the poor saps shoulder acting as if getting mauled by him is the worst thing ever. When he pulls away, straightening up, my mouth falls to the floor and my stomach meets my feet.

Maddie laughs placing her hand on the guys chest. "You remember Ian, don't you?"

From the corner of my eye I can see Knight seething. His eyes flying between me, Ian and Maddie. Ian takes a step toward me as his eyes drift over every inch of my body, a cocky grin forming on his face.

"Been along time, Skye."

Ian leans forward placing a kiss on my cheek and then all hell breaks loose.
