I nearly spit out my drink all over the table. The bubbles from the soda filling my nose and making me cough like a man with emphysema. Knight looks at me with a quirked eyebrow and a smug grin. When I finally compose myself I say, "I'm sorry, you wanted a what?"
"A date. Don't be a bitch."
I roll my eyes. "Yeah because every girl would agree to go on a date with some jerk who just called her a bitch."
"I said don't be a bitch. I didn't actually call you a bitch."
I wave him off while I grab a French fry from the middle of the table. "Semantics. Besides, isn't this kinda like a date? You sly, motherfucker." I pop the French fry in my mouth before gesturing around to the diner we ended up in.
Knight guided me to this hole in the wall giving me absolutely no indication where we were going until we got here. I didn't argue much once I found out he was paying but the cute little diner is giving off major date vibes. We're sitting in a small booth at the back of the restaurant. The dark colored ambiance gives off a relaxed almost romantic vibe and to top it all off he ordered a ton of food for us to share!
"I mean, you didn't even let me get my own damn fries."
He chuckles grabbing a fry and dipping it in some ketchup. "I was trying to be nostalgic but if you've become that damn greedy with your fries in the last four years then I'll get you your own!"
Knight goes to wave down the waitress while I roll my eyes but I stop him just in time. "Fine, asshole. Make me feel guilty. I'll share. Okay?"
He laughs before popping another ketchup dunked fry in his mouth. When he's done chewing he says, "And to answer your question, no this is not a date."
I raise my eyebrow as I chew around an onion ring. He takes the hint to explain further. Letting out a huff at his annoyance I can't help but smile. "I want a real date. Like a lobster and steak dinner date. Where you have to wear a dress and heels."
My eyes narrow at him. "Um, why? So I can't run away."
Knight laughs and my insides turn to mush. His laughter is a symphony I could listen to every day for the rest of my life. I smile at the sound. "I never even thought of that but yeah, maybe. Can't have you booking it before it's over."
I roll my eyes. He shakes his head. "No. I just...," another breath, "I want us to have a fresh start. And what better way then doing what most people do to get to know each other than by going out on a date?"
Squinting at him it takes me a few minutes for his words to digest. A date. He wants a date. A real, get dressed up, do my makeup and hair and wear fucking heels date. I let out a heavy sigh feening defeat but in reality my stomach feels like a swarm of bees just escaped I'm so damn nervous. I nod, "Okay, fine. I'll agree to your date."
Knight smiles the brightest smile at me and if I didn't know any better I'd think it was an add for a toothpaste commercial. I shake my head. "You're going to regret this. I'm going to make it the most awkward first date of your life."
He laughs, looking me straight in the eyes. "You could literally do your worst but nothing would ever make me regret it."
My breath catches as I hold his eyes. They're drowning in sincerity and I can feel tears building at the back of my eyes. He's not just talking about the date, he's talking about us. I look down avoiding the emotion I can see staring back at me and try to regain some composure before I turn into a sad sap and really embarrass myself.
I reach over for a mozzarella stick, taking a huge bite out of it when Knight asks, "what about you?"
"Hm?" I mumble around my mouthful.
He laughs. "What did you want? What was your bet?"
I wait for him to swallow his mouthful and when he reaches for his drink taking a big glue I announce, "Sex."
Knight eyes turn into saucers as he spits his soda all over his side of the booth. I laugh, a full whole body laugh. Tears form at my eyes while he struggles to catch his breath. The waitress comes by looking worried but Knight manages to wave her off because I'm useless in my fit of laughter. She doesn't say a word as she brings over a dozen napkins and walks away to her other customers.
He wipes his chin of all the stickiness before turning those don't-bullshit-me eyes back to me. I shrug as I try to calm down. "Are you serious?" He asks. Those hazel eyes still narrowed at me while I shrug again, this time giving him a wicked smirk.
I play innocent, grabbing a French fry and taking small bites while I fill him in. "I mean, we had some great sex. You can't deny that." My eyes flicker up to his watching as he leans back into the booth and smirks at me. Yeah, bastard knows I'm right.
Shrugging I continue, "I've been horny and let's face it your dick works for me so when Niko asked...." Knight leans toward me. Elbows hitting the table he opens his mouth to say something but I cut him off. "Only that's not all of it."
His mouth closes as his eyebrows pinch together. I lean into the table mimicking his posture. Lowering my voice I say, "I bet that if you lost you'd have to give me sex. Sex where I'm in charge and if you deviate from anything I say I'll handcuff you to the bed and make you watch me get myself off." Knights eyes widen as he lets out a small gasp.
The waitress comes back over at that moment. "Do you kids need anything else?"
I smile, my eyes still on Knight. "No. I think we're done. Just the check when you get a chance. Thanks."
"Surely. Take your time." The waitress smiles, drops down our check and walks away.
Knight chokes back his shock, leaning back into the booth blinking a few times as if he needs to be reassured this is all real. I go back to eating our array of food when he snickers. My eyes glance up to his. "When do we get started?"
I smile devilishly leaning back in the booth. "Whenever you want."
Knight grabs the check, glances at it and then throws some bills down on the table to cover our tab. "Right fucking now." I pop my last fry in my mouth before chuckling and getting early hauled out of the booth in Knight's anxious rush.
