Your phone vibrated in your left jacket pocket, the wireless ear buds drowning out the sound of your motorcycle on the highway, spamming your ears with the signature ringtone. You brought your hand up to your ear and tapped the side of your left bud.
"This is y/n."

"Y/N," your skin started to goosebump, despite the layers you were wearing to protect yourself from the wind. He only called when it was important, and last time you both spoke, he saved your life. In this business, that meant you owed him one. "it's been a while."

You could faintly hear the sound of heavy bass and a techno beat resonating from the background of the call. He continued speaking before you had the chance to reply,

"I don't have time for small talk, I'm cashing in on that favor you owe me. Meet me at the Black Pyramid, it's important, otherwise I wouldn't be calling so last minute."

"Great to hear from you! How've you been? That's good to know," you said, your voice clear with sarcasm.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah Black Pyramid, I got it. Be there within the hour."

"I knew I could count on you. See you soon." The other end of the line ended with a click and you were left rolling your eyes. You two have known each other since you were teenagers, him being a couple years older than you. Back then it was simple childhood games, sneaking out and breaking rules. But now it was different. He gained a rep and eventually enough clout to become one of the best fixers in Night City.

And since you grew up to be a Mercenary, eventually enough you were gonna run into him and do a job or two. You were paid of course, but there was no doubt that earning the title of Fixer had changed him. Luckily enough, there were moments where his personality would shine and it felt like the good old days. But regardless, he was your boss and you promised him a favor.

You continued maneuvering your matte grey motorcycle through a well lit tunnel, traveling between the lanes of traffic, trying as legally as possible, to speed your way to the Black Pyramid. After a few minutes the tunnel opened up and downtown Night City slowly spanned into view. Dozens of differently shaped sky scrapers were standing tall, shining in the sky, with many highways spread throughout the city.

Holographic neon billboards and moving art advertisements adorned the sides of buildings, with LED lights flashing brightly. The same could be said at ground level, where everywhere you went, there were flashing advertisements and media. The ground was free of trash thanks to the cleaning robots that patrol at night, and palm trees were placed sparingly throughout downtown to give it an earthy feel. Above the streets was the subway rail system that moved through the city like a maze.

Downtown Night City was definitely the cleanest of the area, with the Night City Police Department nearby and the governors office sitting next door. This is where most of the official business for corporations happened in the city. The Black Pyramid however was not in this area, but coming through here was the fastest route.

As you made your way through the city, you started to see more trash, the smell of the air changing lightly, and more people. Vendors and AI lined the sidewalks, while convenience stores and restaurants were much more prevalent. This was considered the heart of Night City.

Eventually, you turned to a street and parked your bike in a secluded parking lot that was stuck between an old warehouse and a large hotel with vertically placed yellow neon letters alongside the building marked 'HOTEL ARTEMIS'.
