And just like that, the relationship was gone. As was Atsuko. Tsukki barely ever saw her at school anymore, and even if he did, she would be walking with a hostile Eri who glared at him if he attempted to approach. She read his messages but never replied. She didn't answer his calls. She ignored him in the corridor. Tsukishima tried and tried to talk to her, to apologise, but it didn't work. He began to lose hope. And finally, he accepted that, once again, he had ruined another relationship.

Instead, Tsukishima devoted himself to his music and his studies. The date for the Karasuno and Shiratorizawa match drew closer and closer. But he didn't care.

'I just... want to know why you don't care.'

That's what Atsuko had said to him. Before they had broken up. Tsukki knew why he didn't care anymore. Just like he had said, he didn't want to get hurt. He didn't want to be vulnerable and weak. Because last time Tsukishima believed in the lies he was told, he ended up with a broken relationship and trust issues. Fun.

He walked home, Nirvana blasting through his headphones. Tsukki had already discarded his airpods, which he had only bought to listen to music with Atsuko. But she was gone now.

His bed was a comforting sight. He fell onto it and began to leaf through his textbook. Drowning himself in his studies was the only way to stop him from thinking about her. It was barely working anymore. Atsuko was his light, always bright and smiling. And he had lost her.

'Tsukki! Are you ok?' Yamaguchi questioned nervously. He had noticed a change in his friend's mood since the breakup. They were sitting together on the coach, on their way to Shiratorizawa for their big match.

'I'm fine, Yamaguchi. Stop asking.' Tsukishima cracked his knuckles and glared down at his shoes.

'Sorry Tsukki.' Yamaguchi said, a tinge of worry in his voice.

The coach soon pulled up outside Shiratorizawa. It was a rather intimidating school, just like most of its students who seemed quite hostile.

Tsukishima walked slowly behind the others. His mind was in an entirely different place. And he couldn't do this right now. Not when he had messed up like this.

He remained silent whilst he changed. Hinata was babbling excitedly whilst Kageyama glared at him with a slight blush on his face. Daichi and Suga were talking like an old married couple in the corner, most likely discussing strategies. Tsukishima couldn't give two shits about this stupid match. He just wanted Atsuko back.

And so the match began. Ushiwaka had a powerful hit, far too powerful for Tsukki's blocks and Nishinoya's digs. Frustration slowly built up in him. Why was he here? What was the point of volleyball? It was all so dumb. So fucking dumb.

Ushiwaka was preparing to serve again. Fate was not in favour of Karasuno for this first set. Tsukishima sighed and prepared for the incoming power serve. He glanced up at the audience. The Karasuno side was loud and cheerful as ever, despite their team failing miserably. Their were many familiar faces in the crowd and Tsukki's eyes widened upon seeing lilac hair amongst them. The noticeable lilac hair belonged to Eri who was sitting in the crowd next to a tired looking Atsuko.

He couldn't stop staring at her. It had been so long since he had been able to look at her face properly. Atsuko was so pretty. But her eyebags were dark and noticeable and she was slumped in her seat. Tsukki sighed and turned back just as the whistle blew and Ushiwaka hit a demonic serve right at him.

The first set was soon over. Shiratorizawa had won by miles,  which made Karasuno grimace. The 'read' blocker on Shiratorizawa's side, Tendou,  began to laugh and sing.

Tsukki frowned and walked off to the bathroom. He swung open the door and went to rinse his face. He looked up in the mirror and shouted,

'HOLY SHIT.'

Atsuko was standing nervously against the wall. She smiled sheepishly,

'Hi Tsukki.'

Tsukishima clutched his chest, 'What the fuck are you doing in the boy's bathroom?'

Atsuko's eyes widened, 'Oh shit. This is the boy's bathroom. Right. Uh-'

She began to walk away but Tsukki grabbed her arm and closed the door.

'We need to talk.' He said stonily, but with a soft, concerned expression.

Atsuko jumped onto the sink top and swung her legs.

'That's why I came to see you.'

Tsukishima snorted, 'Yeah in the fucking boy's bathroom.'

Atsuko glared then her face softened, 'I'm sorr-'

'No. Don't apologise.' Tsukishima cracked his knuckles nervously, 'You did nothing wrong. I'm sorry for snapping at you. I should never have said that. I just- I got hurt once. And it was by someone I loved. I'm just nervous with this,' he gestured at Atsuko, 'whole relationship thing. But I love you. So I really want to work this out. Because I want to be with you Atsuko.'

Atsuko grinned, 'I love you too. Things are just really bad at home and sometimes I just really want to,' she tried to look for proper phrasing, 'die. But with you, I feel... I feel special. And loved. Like I'm somebody.'

'You are somebody Atsuko. And I love everything about you.' Tsukishima said, a faint blush dusting his cheeks.

Atsuko wrapped her arms around Tsukki.

'Please don't leave me again.' Tsukki whispered.

Atsuko smiled and leaned up to plant a kiss on his lips, 'Never.'

Yamaguchi strolled into the bathroom, 'Hey Tsukki, the second set is startin- ATSUKO! WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THE BOY'S BATHROOM!'

'Shit. This is the boy's bathroom. Right um-' Atsuko burst out laughing and sprinted out of the door, dragging a snorting Tsukishima with her.

'I told you it was the boy's bathroom-'

'I DIDN'T FRICKING EXPECT YAMS TO WALK IN. Oh god, now I seem like some perverted weirdo-'

'Aren't you already?'

'Shut up, beanpole.'

'Ok shortie.'

'LOOK I AM SO DONE WITH YOU-'
