The road trip was a big success. We beat New York, crushed the Islanders and then in Boston, well that was a bit of a nail bitter.
It was back and forth all game, Ryan's son-in-law Drew McKenzie was a thorn in my side all night, but I managed to cover him as best as I could and keep him to only one goal for the night.
I got that one back though on a power play and tied it up for the good guys. So square one again for us. We managed to get the upper hand at the beginning of the 2nd and went up 2-1. I prayed that our goalie would stand on his head and I wasn't disappointed. He was stopping anything that was thrown at him.
In the 3rd period Greg scored a beauty and we were up 3-1, but the Bruins are per grit and fought their hardest to come back, but only managed to come within one.
I headed into the dressing room to get showered and changed to head out to dinner with my parents, the Andersons, Hayley's parents, Drew and his wife. So apparently the whole damn world lol.
I come out of the dressing room and see my mom and dad. I walk over and give my mom a hug first.
"Oh Evan, you played amazing," she said smiling. My dad was next and he gave me a hug, "So proud of you son. I never thought I would see the day that I became a Leaf fan, but here we are," he says laughing.
Hayley's parents were next and her mom grabbed me and gave me the tightest hug, "Evan you really are a star out there."
"Thanks Mrs. Maddison, I appreciate that," I say smiling.
"Oh Evan how many times have I told you to call me Carol and Mr. Maddison, Jim," she says smiling.
I smile and nod. I shake Jim's hand and he pats me on the back, "Your game has really improved since the last time I saw you play Evan."
"Thanks Jim, I think that was back in my college days," I say laughing.
We meet up with Drew and his wife Emily and head to the restaurant for a bite to eat.
I Facetimed Hayls so she could see her parents and everyone else. She started to cry and I knew she missed everyone. He parents said that they would come and visit soon. She caught up with Emily and promised she would come visit Emily in Boston soon.
She thanked me a million times for Facetiming her so she could see everyone and she didn't have to cause I loved seeing Hayls smile.
After I hung up her mom asked how she was doing and if I was taking good care of her. She knew how hard Hayls took her break up with that douche bag.
"She's doing really good Carol. I try to spend as much time with her when I am home and she seems to be going out with her friends a lot more now that douche bag is not around," I say smiling.
"Thanks for taking care of her. You really have always been her rock. A mom can only hope that she finds a guy who treats her half as good as you do hun," she says smiling at me.
"I'll make sure they do cause Hayls is pretty special to me," I say.
We finish up dinner and I head back to the hotel. Tired after a long day and a grueling game. I throw on some sweats and lay down. Scrolling through my phone and my thinking goes back to Hayls. I shoot a text to her.
"You still up over there or did you go to bed right after we Facetimed?"
"Still up working on a brief for tomorrow. On my forth cup of coffee and you know how much I love the stuff *insert sarcasm here*."
"You really must want to stay awake if you are drinking coffee. I clearly remember you telling me coffee smelled really good, but tasted like a monkey's asshole. I am still trying to figure out how you know this, :p"
"I told you it's a figure of speech and that I have never nor will I ever taste a monkey's asshole. How was dinner and why are you not out enjoying Boston night life and the ladies?"
"Dinner was great. I miss my mom and dad so it was great catching up and of course your mom made sure I was watching out for you and taking good care of her baby. As for going out tonight, I realized I may be getting tired of that life and all the randoms it brings with it."
"Who are you and what have you done with my best friend? Lol"
"Ha ha funny. I guess seeing everyone tonight and the Drew and Emily made me want that special woman to come home too."
"Well well my little Evan is growing up. About time. Just whenever you find her you can't kick me out right away. Give me at least a 30 say notice. Lol"
"Would never do that. Whoever I end up with needs to know you are an important part of my life."
"Thanks Ev that means a lot."
"It's the truth. I would never do that too you."
"You are the best. I gotta get back to work. You home for dinner tomorrow night?"
"Yea we get in around 3:00 pm, so I will be. I can make something for us if you want?"
"Sounds good, but I'll pick up pizza on the way home just incase it ends up like last time. Lol j/k"
"Ouch Hayls, but don't work too hard and I'll see you tomorrow night."
"Night Ev."
I lay back and smile to myself. Thinking about my little revaluation tonight. I don't hear Greg come in.
"Hey Evan, missed you tonight at the bar. How did you family dinner go?" he asked.
"Good man. It was nice seeing everyone."
"Was McKenzie pissed we beat them?"
"Yeah a little bit, but he promised we are getting our asses handed to us next time," I say laughing.
"Well there were a lot of disappointed ladies at the bar tonight when you were a no show. Gordy had a couple a primed for you," he says laughing.
"Honestly I just wasn't feeling it tonight. I think your domesticated bliss is rubbing off on me and randoms are starting to get old," I say.
"Well fucking finally Donaldson. You going to finally admit to me that you feel something for Hayley?" he asks.
"Lol if I did I wouldn't tell you cause then Nicole will know and soon after Hayls. All I will say is that I am done with randoms and want to find the one who feels like home," I say trying not to sound too sappy.
"Fuck, what did you do with my best buddy?" he asks.
"Nothing, I just took some good advice from a good friend," I say giving him the finger and laughing.
"Alright get some sleep man and I have a feeling you won't have to look too far to find her," he says turning over and going to sleep.
I slide down under the covers and try to fall a sleep, but have trouble with so much on my mind.
