We step out of City Hall about 2 hours later and both of us have the biggest smiles on our face.
"Well Mrs. Donaldson, how would you like to spend our first official night together as husband and wife?" Evan asks me taking my hand.
"Hmm Mr. Donaldson, I could think of a few ideas, but I would really like to get something to eat first," I say smiling.
"How about you call Nicole to meet us somewhere for dinner and we can tell her the good news and she'll tell Greg tonight when he calls her after the game."
"Sounds perfect and then I guess tomorrow we tackle our parents then?"
"Shit I forgot about them. Your dad is going to kill me," he says leaning into and kissing me.
"I'll explain it to him and I am sure he'll understand. He just wants me to be happy," I say squeezing his hand.
I call Nicole and tell her to meet Ev and I at this little Italian restaurant around the corner from our condo. She says sure and we start to head in that direction.
"So how does it feel to officially be a married woman?" Evan asks me.
"Like this was how it was supposed to be all along. I can't tell you how many times when I was younger I pictured marrying you. You were always my end game."
He smiles and kisses me slowly, pulling me into his body.
"Excuse me are you Evan Donaldson?" a little kid asks him pulling on his suit jacket.
He looks down and smiles, "I sure am buddy and what is your name?"
"Robbie and I am 8. You are my favorite hockey player Mr. Donaldson. Can I have your autograph please?" he asks holding out his hat.
"Sure Robbie, I like your hat a lot," he says signing it. Seeing it was a Toronto Maple Leaf's hat with Evan's number on it.
"Thanks my friend got it for me when he went to a Leaf game. I really want to go to one, but my dad says tickets are really expensive," he says looking down at the ground.
"Tell you what Robbie, how about you come to the rest of the home games this season as my guest?"
"Really for real?" he asks
"For real Robbie, is your dad around so I can talk to him about it.
Robbie points to a man standing close by and Evan walks Robbie back to his dad and talks with him for a minute. I watch as the man shakes his head and then hugs Evan. I smile knowing what a kind and caring man I married.
Evan comes back over. "So what was that all about?" I ask him.
"I just let his dad know that he can have my 2 extra player tickets for the rest of the year. My parents rarely come up for a game and if they do Greg will give me his extra two. Just seeing the look on that little guy's face was worth it."
"You are something else Mr. Donaldson," I say kissing him.
We get to the restaurant and the hostess shows us to our table. Looking at Evan and flirting with him a little too much for my liking.
She seats us and looks right at Evan and asks if there is anything she can get him before our waitress comes over.
I speak up, "No my husband and I are fine. We'll wait for our server," I say giving her a smile.
He looks at me and smiles, "Marking your territory already there?"
"Just making sure she knows you are taken forever," I say smiling and feel Evan's hand slip onto my thigh.
