Things have been going great in our lives the last couple of months. Hayls is super busy with being a Junior partner in her firm and I have been on fire the last couple of months in the league.
Rumors have been circulating that the Leafs are looking to trade Harrison for a power forward and that will leave the Captain slot open. The guys have been joking with me that I am a shoe in for the position, but I think Greg should get it. He has been like a mentor to me every since I got here and there is no one better to lead us then him.
We finish a grueling practice and I head into the locker room to get showered and changed. I start taking off my equipment and watch as coach calls Harrison into his office.
Greg slides over to me, "It's a done deal, he is off to Las Vegas."
"Seriously, how do you know?" I ask.
"Insider sources," he says smiling.
After what seemed like forever, Harrison comes back in and sits down.
"Well guys looks like I have been traded to Vegas. I have to be there in two days. It's been a pleasure to be your Captain for the last 3 years and I will miss all of you," he says starting to pack up his locker.
I stick around a little longer after most of the guys have left and walk over to Harrison.
"Hey Cam, I just wanted to say I am going to miss you man. You have been a great leader," extending my hand.
"Yea right Donaldson, you are probably glad to see me going. Seeing as how after the whole Hayley thing we never really got along."
"I got over that the moment her and I got back together. You are a hell of a hockey player and a great leader. Vegas is lucky to have you. I wish you and your little girl nothing but the best there," patting him on the back.
"Thanks after everything that happened last year Charlotte is the best thing that came out of it. She really is an amazing little girl."
Turned out Jen's baby was Cam's and he decided to step up and take responsibility for her. Jen was still in jail for what she did to Hayley and Cam's mom and dad have been helping him with Charlotte.
"For what it's worth I told management to give you the C. The guys respect and look up to you more than you know," he says shaking my hand.
"Thanks that means a hell of a lot," pulling him into a hug.
He heads out the door and I grab my bag and head out myself. On my way out I hear Coach call me into his office.
"Yeah coach," I say putting my bag down and sitting across from him.
"How is everything going? Hayley good?"
"Yeah everything is really good coach. I am here for at least another 5 years and Hayls just made Junior partner at her firm," I say smiling.
"Brains and beauty, you lucked out there Donaldson. I know it's been a rough ride for you two, but I am glad you guys found your footing."
"Me too. She is an amazing woman."
"So I wanted to talk to you about something. Harrison is leaving us for the bright lights of Vegas and myself and management want to offer you the Captain's position, if you want it that is?"
"Absolutely Sir. I would be honored to wear the C and lead the team," I say shaking his hand.
"You earned it Evan. You have grown so much since you got here and there is no one better to fill this position and lead the team. Congratulations Donaldson. Now go home and give the news to Hayley," he says smiling.
