I am just about to close my eyes after an eventful night that lasted into the morning, when I hear Hayley say, "Shit they know."
Before I can ask her who knows what I see her get off the bed and she is talking on her cell phone. Who the hell calls this god dang early in the morning. As if I have just cursed myself, I hear my phone ringing.
"Seriously," I say sitting up in bed and grabbing my phone.
"Whoever this is better have a good reason for calling me this early," I say in a rather pissed off tone.
"Evan what have I told you about using that tone with me?" I hear my mom say on the other end of the call.
"Sorry mom, it's just been a long night and we were just about to go to sleep," I say.
"Oh were you having you Honeymoon?" she asks.
"Huh, sorry mom what did you say?"
"I ask if you were on your Honeymoon. You heard me. Tell me why did you dad and I have to find out that you and Hayley are married from a sleezy tv media report?"
"Fuck," I whisper turning the phone away from my mouth.
"I heard that young man," she says.
"Mom, I am sorry. Just after the press conference all I could think about was wanting to make things official with Hayley and I. So we walked down to City Hall and had a Civil ceremony. We were going to tell you all today and we'll have the big wedding later. I just wanted her to be my wife. I lost her once, I didn't want there to ever be a chance of that again," I say running my fingers threw my hair.
"I get that and I am sorry if I came of harsh. I was just hurt that you guys didn't tell us right away and I found out from TMZ," she says.
"I had no idea it was out. God I don't know why the media is so obsessed with me and us."
"Don't worry about the media. Your dad and I are just so happy that you and Hayley are finally together and happy. Is she there? I want to welcome her officially to the Donaldson's ."
"From the sounds of it I think she may be on the phone with her parents," I say with a chuckle.
"Well when she is done, please have her call me and your dad and I couldn't be prouder of the man that you have become," she says with a sniffle.
"Thanks mom, I love you guys so much," I say hanging up and sitting back against the head board.
Hayley comes in and sits beside me. "Well was that your parents?"
"Yea and my mom and dad were pissed at first, but I managed to settle them down. You have to call my dad by the way," she says laughing.
"You have to call my mom. She wants to officially welcome you to the family," I say.
We both yawn and I pull her close to me. "Let's get some sleep and we will deal with everyone else afterwards."
"Sounds like a good idea to me," she says laying her head down on my chest.
I rub her back as I stare up at the ceiling realizing how lucky I am to have this woman beside me.
We wake up around noon and I hear my stomach grumbling for food. Hayley is still sleeping, so I quietly get out of bed and throw on some shorts and head into the kitchen to make us something to eat.
I put on the living room tv and turn the volume on low. TMZ comes on while I am cooking lunch and I see Hayley and I plastered all over the tv.
The headline reads "Evan Donaldson top Defenseman in the NHL weds long time best friend only hours after dyeing paternity of Jen Wright's unborn child."
