Alby's POV

A/N- Alby's personality is going to be based on his character in the books- angry and stern (very different to the movies haha). Thanks for reading!

As the leader of the Glade, it was pretty much expected of me that I was to supervise Y/N and all the other Greenies that come up in the box. Watching her from the Watchtower yesterday, it was clear that she wasn't cut out to be builder. We needed better from her. I mean how hard is it to lay bricks? Either way, I was sure Y/N has some talent that lies in another place.

Lost in my thoughts, I hadn't even realised that Y/N was ambling towards me, a determined smile on her face. "I'm pretty sure I'm destined for more than just gardening, but I'll give it my best shot, boss." She said, smirking. "You sassing me, Greenie?" I asked, a stern look on my face. I'm the leader, after all- she should know her place. "Of course not, just forget it." She replied. I didn't follow up on that: she was the only girl here and I wanted to be chivalrous- picking on a girl was just not my thing.

"Good luck today, Greenie. Maybe it'll turn out your true calling is a gardener, after all." I said, a little warmth in a voice. With that, I left her. I had many duties to attend to and Glade time waits for no man. Truly though, I did hope Y/N managed on her trial today.

Y/n's POV
Damn, here we were again. I mean, I've got to say the Builder's trial didn't exactly go to plan- my opinions of building are obviously terrible but about Gally? I don't know. He just seems too bipolar: I guess I've got to charm him- that's what I do best.

Laughing at my faked confidence, I strolled over to the Gardens, where I saw Newt and Zart before me. "Right on time, Y/N." Zart smiled politely. Newt just smirked at that. "But from what I can tell she's late to everything else." He winked at me, which caused my heart to skip. Why does everyone in this place have to be so damn good looking? It's ruining my focus.

"Okay, we're going to try you out on some harvesting. Go over there and start picking some tomatoes and put them in here." Zart handed me a wicker basket, a small friendly smile on his round face. "Good luck, Y/N. I'm sure you'll do great." Newt squeezed my shoulder. I marched over to the plants with focus, knowing that I had majorly flunked my first trial and was determined to at least prove that I wasn't totally unable.

Obviously there wasn't much that could go wrong with planting, so it didn't go too bad, really. But I really wasn't a fan of the whole thing; I knew I couldn't bear a life of plucking and snipping all day long. Lost in my own thoughts, I hadn't realised Zart was behind me. "Sorry if I scared you, Y/N. Would you mind getting us some more fertiliser? You can find some in the Deadheads." Clearly this wasn't a request, rather it was part of my trial. "Sure." I said, rolling my eyes ever so slightly.

After a while of walking, I was deep into the forest the Gladers called the "Deadheads". Now all alone, there were many sounds I could hear which were usually drowned out by the boys' loud voices. A gentle rustle of leaves, the sound of a stream and distant chirps of some birds filled my ears, bringing me to a state of contentment; I hadn't felt this relaxed for as long as I could remember. Everything was beautiful- even the smells of leaves, flowers, earth-

And decay. Decaying? Why could I smell such a horrible rotting smell? I picked up the pace, quickly getting closer to this unbearable smell. Passing a huge tree, I located the smell. A body. A rotting, decayed, disgusting body. Shocked by what my eyes had witnessed, I let out a huge scream.
