Chapter One:

Bucky's POV:

The nights would last longer than the days felt. Each night seemed harder than the last and the only thing keeping me sane was knowing I was free from him the man I was once, the man that caused endless heartache to families who didn't deserve any pain. Since the war and spending time in Wakanda the avengers welcomed me into their home and arm's which some would think is hard to do. Most of them and I get along well, except Tony. We agreed we would work on being civil and then possibly working on being friends but for now, it was agreed the only reason we were nice to one another was for Steve's sake.

"Buck?" looking up in the doorway I could see Steve standing there in his usual get-up which if it wasn't the famous suit it was jeans and a grey shirt. Steve moved his head to the side once he saw my focus was on him. "Are you okay, was it a nightmare?" his voice was soft with me, almost felt as if he pitied me a little.

Sitting up I grabbed my shirt from the chair and smiled at him. "No," was all I could say to him. "They sent you up here, why?" I asked not trying to sound rude towards him. It was great, don't get me wrong being with him after the only god knows how long.

Steve patted my shoulder and brought me out of the room. "We have a mission for the day, Fury has requested us and we have to get going. You can eat something before we go if you'd like?" since moving in Steve has been acting like he was my parent, which again I understood I mean I was a monster and killed way too many people, sometimes I feel being watched constantly was the only thing keeping me from doing it again.

"I'm not hungry, I can grab something if I do get hungry though, thanks." Steve nodded at my reply and tossed my leather jacket off the rack to me. "Who's carpooling with us?" I asked as we walked out of the building.

Pointing I followed his gaze as a black car came speeding up beside us. "Need a ride?" Natasha smiled as she rolled down the window. Her red hair in a pleat. I got in the back of the car as the mister Captain America sat in the passenger seat beside Natasha. She was a great person, I'm not sure how she could forgive me so quickly as I was one to almost kill them, more than once. But after that whole incident, she welcomed me with almost open arms. "So, any stops along the way? I for one need coffee since you woke me up so rudely this morning with that call." Natasha joked glancing at Steve who had a smug smile on his face.

"Coffee sounds good," I chirped up. It might help me feel more awake as well. Since the nightmares are pretty much re-occurring it was hard to sleep easily at night.

Natasha glanced at me from the mirror. "Nightmares, it's written all over your face there, James." I cringed at the use of my first name, not that it bothers me that people use it. Just how people use it. "We can get you some coffee, but until then I suggest maybe relaxing I doubt Fury will have any good news for us with how urgent he wants us there."

Steve sighed "knowing Tony, we will be on time compared to him. He likes to take his time now." Again since the war, Tony has been taking his time with everything, but I didn't blame him he had a kid and a spider-man he had to make sure they were okay most of the time.

"Steve, he is married and has a kid, I think being late is understandable for him. Especially with nearly being killed from the power of the snap." Natasha glanced at Steve. After Tony used the glove he almost didn't make it home to his family. He spent months in the hospital getting treated, and by hospital, I meant the hospital in the Avengers tower. Nick Fury had become very protective of everyone after that.

Once we had our coffee we were on our way to the tower to meet up with everyone. Natasha parked around the side and we all gotten out of the car making our way into the building. Steven pushed the wide door open letting Natasha and I go in first. "Look who finally decided to show," Tony said with his usual sarcasm.

Looking at the clock it was only eight in the morning. "At eight in the morning, oh so early," I mumbled taking a seat beside Wanda who was across from Vision. After the war, we weren't sure how but Wanda had manifested enough power, and one day we all kind of just seen Vision. After that Fury had suggested that Dr. Strange was to mentor her and make sure she could use her power without any risk.

"Enough bickering," Fury caught all of our attention as he came sauntering into the room not long after we did. "We have trouble and it has a chance to escalate very quickly." We could tell just by his voice he was serious with us.

Sitting up Tony adjusted his sunglasses he always seemed to wear inside for whatever reason. "What is it? Aliens, wizards, or androids?"

'Hydra." The room fell silent as soon as the words left his mouth.

Everyone's attention turned to Wanda and myself. "What?" Wanda said sitting back with her knee's now to her chest.

"Are you two okay?" Natasha asked, she was like a mother of the group. Always wanting to make sure everyone was okay.

Wanda and I took a look at one another and nodded. "They don't have power over us, not anymore," I said trying to remain calm. I knew Hydra was big but a part of me thought those days were over.

Nick nodded pulling out a remote to the screen he was now putting on. "They have people hostage, not many but a hostage is still a hostage no matter if it's one or one hundred. They are held in this ship bay, we don't know how many men are there. It is rumoured that they have serum's for super soldiers though." This time Steve and I got the looks. "I know this isn't sounding what we want but we need those people out before we even think about the serum's, we don't know how many we are dealing with and I want all my team to come home, do you understand me?" Nick's words grew rougher. As we all nodded he let out a relieved sigh, "I want Steve to lead this mission, no one disobeys his orders, not even you, Stark"

The meeting grew silent as we all got up and headed back to our cars. "So when do we leave?" I asked looking at the captain.

"Now."
