Chapter 8:

Bucky's POV:

Days had passed, Novah was avoiding me like I was cursed.

Steve and Natasha had explained to her why they did what they did which results in Novah speaking to them more, but yet whenever I entered the room she would leave or couldn't even look me in the eyes.

The guilt that stayed with me since that night was insane, usually I could brush things like this off but for whatever reason with her, I couldn't. Hearing her so upset that night hurt me in a way I never felt.

She has been so distant from me, which I understood I did betray her trust. I just wish she knew everything that night I would love to do again.

Walking outside I could see everyone sitting there. Novah sitting between Sam and her sister. She had her head leaning on Sam's chest as his arm was around her shoulders. Not helping it I glared at him as I felt bad for not being the one Novah wanted to run to anymore.

At night I could hear her cry out in pain from the serum, some nights just ever from her dreams and it hurt me inside. Natasha was always with Steve which always left Nov and me at the compound. "Bucky, how are you feeling?" Natasha asked as I took a seat across from her and her sister.

Looking at Nat I glanced over at the cuddling two beside her before glancing back. "I'm fine, have you guys located the man?" meaning to Novah's capture man.

Natasha shook her head looking at the table that was filled with tech Stark would use. "No, I tried looking as much as we could. We might just have to use her as bait and see where we get a sign."

Furrowing my brows I shook my head. "That's a terrible idea."

Novah looked up at me with a cold look, "with all due respect, it's not your choice here. Barnes." I cringed. I much rather her call me her pet name.

Leaning forward I nodded. "Okay, then I'm going with her."

"No-"

Cutting Novah off I huffed at her. "with all due respect, Novah I'm not giving anyone a choice." she sat back in Sam's arms.

Rolling my eyes I sat back in my seat as Steve sat beside me.

"We can lay low for a bit, there hasn't been anything to concern us yet. We aren't even sure she is in danger. The guy may see it as his men failed once and that's it."

Novah seemed like she wanted to believe it but I knew deep down she didn't. "No, he's waiting for her to mess up somehow. He knows a lot about her and she knows too much there is no way he is going to just let her go, Steve, Hydra isn't like that you should know that."

Steve nodded and looked at the crew. "We still don't move in yet. Do you guys understand me?"

"Yes," everyone but Novah said.

What were you thinking about?

Novah's POV:

I stood up from my spot brushing off my jeans. Natasha looked up at me "are you okay?" she looked at me.

The last few days Natasha and I have been working on our bond.

Nodding I smiled softly at her. "I'm just going to get some water, I'll be back," I said making my way from the patio area into the compound kitchen. Grabbing some water I let it run for a moment.

Flashback

"Novah?" turning from where I was standing I saw my sister standing there, her arms to her side as she chewed her lip. "Can we talk?"

Rolling my eyes I looked at her body language, "what about? The fact you lied to me and I was your mission. How dare you." I wanted to scream and yell at her but knowing it would be no use.

Natasha nodded. "I know, what I did was unforgivable and I do not expect you to, believe me. But please just listen." Nodding she knew it was the sign to continue before I lost my patience. "We had to make sure, we hadn't seen you in years and trust me it killed me watching you break down, it kills me knowing you wish you were the one dead. Novah, you may not feel like a hero but you are. You saved the world from him turning you into a weapon. He knew what he was doing and sure he is still out there but we will get him. You don't need to forgive me but I needed to tell you I am sorry."

Nodding I smiled at her. "I can't stay mad at you forever, you are my sister. I don't agree with what you have done but I am sure if it were me I would have done the same thing."

Smiling she walked forward hugging me. "I don't get why you went as far as to make Bucky tell me those stories though, or even cook me dinner."

Looking at me confused she opened her mouth. "I only told him to help open you up, those things he did I never told him to do that." So that was Bucky?

"Novah?" snapping out of thought I looked at the glass that was overflowing with water. Turning the water off I just put the cup in the sink and turned to see it was Bucky standing there. "Are you-"

"I'm fine." cutting him off I dried my handoff. "I need to get back to Nat,"

He stepped in front of me blocking me from the door. "Nov, can we please talk."

Shaking my head I could feel my heart race beside him. I didn't understand what was happening but I knew I needed it to stop. "No, I can't."

"So that's it, you're just going to ignore me, just like that?"

Turning I looked at him softly. I knew it wasn't good but for Bucky, opening up to him was the hardest thing to do, I may have forgiven Nat a little easier but that is because she was my family. It was different with Bucky, I thought he was different. "I don't think I should give a man who broke my trust the time of day." was all I could manage to say before exiting out the door. Apart from me wanted to break down crying as I could hear him walking down the hall away from where we were going.

He was the first one to make me want to change for someone in a while, if I hadn't ever seen him as the winter soldier I wouldn't be so curious or would have wanted to help him so bad. So badly I wanted to go and just sit talking to him for hours, but I knew for his sake it wasn't a good idea.

I hope he knew deep down, I was sorry.
