Chapter five.

Novah's POV:

Running I stopped at the end of a hallway, my breathing was rapid as my body and lungs felt as if they had been set ablaze. I didn't know what was louder, the padding of feet coming towards me or my heartbeat trying to beat outside of my chest.

I could hear the wind howling outside meaning I was close to the exit, where I wanted to go.

"Novah, oh sweet Novah." The voice startled me as it started getting closer.

Deciding I didn't have much time I ran down the hall that was brightly lit. Swinging a door open, it slammed shut behind me quickly creating a loud thud. Trying to open it I could tell it was locked from the outside.

Turning into the room It was a small room with no door in it. I could hear the wind but there wasn't even a window. Going to the middle of the room I circled confused as there was no way out. Feeling something wet hit my shoulder I rubbed my hand against it to see a red substance. Looking up I saw I was in a well almost and there was a body lying on top, blood dripping down into it.

Panic struck in me as my breathing grew heavy. Hearing the door slam open I could see the man with the gasmask holding a needle. "This will only hurt a little." He reached towards me grabbing me.

"No!" Shooting up I gasped for air grabbing my chest trying to make myself feel like everything was real and that I could make some sense out of all of this.

Hearing knocking on my door I got a hold of my breath long enough to reply. "Come in," I called out checking the time. It wasn't too late it was more like a nap than sleeping.

Poking his head in Bucky looked at me. "I heard you, you were struggling a bit in your sleep I wanted to check on you."

Rubbing my face I nodded at him. "Was I that loud?"

"No, I was coming down the hall. It's just us, Steve took Nat to his place for the night to cool down."

"So it's just us?" I asked somewhat confused. Bucky nodded his head and sat against the door frame. "Bucky, how do you do it?" the look he gave me made me knew he didn't understand what I meant. "The dreams, how do you do it."

Getting up I walked up to him and sat against the door. "It's not easy, I can say that for sure. I still get them to this day, sure not as often but I still get them and when I do they keep me awake for a while." he looked me up and down studying the bruising on my body and my scars. "You and I have been in there different, they used me as a weapon and you as a prize" I cringed at that sentence. "The nights those dreams come through, they haunt me because what I did like him"

"Bucky, why are you being so nice to me. I have seen how you act like with others." I have seen him for a little now and how he acts around me is different than how he treats others.

Licking his lips his blue eyes met with mine before stepping closer to me. I could feel the warmth of him against me as my small frame sat against the door. "Not everyone understands the hatred I have for Hydra."

"I hate them, more than anything. You don't know what they have done to me and I just can't bring myself to thinking that they might do it to someone else."

"They won't, we are going to stop them, and we won't let them touch you either."

Chuckling I shook my head, we started walking down the hallway together. "the touch they have done is permanent, there is no going back. I still feel every touch, burn, the jab of everything they have done" I studied his reaction to my words. "I guess the only person who would know anything about it, is you."

"I think we should train you more in self-defence." the words blurted out of his mouth.

"Excuse me? I am perfectly fine with how I fight?"

Bucky chuckled at me, "you're fine with it but what I mean is you could never go wrong with more training. You act like a scared cat sometimes, plus you sneak like one too. A cat is great, but you should be sneaking like a panther."

"You spend time in Wakanda and this is what you come up with, tin-man?"

"Hey, you calm down there, kitty."

My mouth dropped as I slammed him against the wall pinning him. "pet names? This is where we are now?"

Bucky smirked leaning forward. "Kitty I think you need to re-think what you've done." Before I could finish thinking about what he said Bucky had flipped me around but instead of pinning me to the wall as I had done to him, he pushed me onto the floor pinning me. "don't ever leave any blind spots, that includes your mind."

"You know, if someone walks in on this they'll think something is wrong," I said placing my hands on his chest. Bucky softened his tension when I placed my hands on him. Pulling me up Bucky scratched the back of his head. "Are you okay?" I asked.

He looked and nodded. "Ugh yeah, I'm fine." I nodded slowly feeling like I had done something he didn't like. "Are you hungry? You haven't eaten well, at all since I've seen you."

Not wanting to make things more awkward I nodded. "Sure, I could go for some food." I followed Bucky to the kitchen where he opened the fridge.

"Do you like sushi? We could share some." he pulled out a takeaway container with sushi inside.

I took a seat at the counter and he came up on the other side. "Yeah, sushi is good." Bucky flipped the container open to reveal the different choices of sushi. Was I calling him tin-man something that had upset him?

Watching Bucky he was calmly eating his sushi-like nothing had just happened. Apart from me wished I could read minds so I could understand what he was thinking if I had done something, of course not wanting to push him more I just kept quiet.

Feeling like I should leave him to breathe I got up and dusted off myself. "Thanks for the food, I should maybe get some sleep." I lied, of course, I was far from tired.

He looked at the time then glanced back at me. "Oh, yeah no worries. Um, if you need anything Novah you can just call out. I'll be there." I wanted to feel flattered but I knew better than to start trusting anyone this soon.

"Thanks" I smiled softly before turning to head back down the hall. I could feel Bucky's eyes burning on the back of me as I walked down the hall.

Once getting to my room I opened my window and let in some fresh air, something I lacked for the last year. It was these small moments that made me feel free, only I knew the freedom always came to an end.

Slumping down on the floor I wanted to be on something besides a bed for once. The sunset was beautiful and the breeze was warm.

Hearing my phone buzz I grabbed it to see a few texts some from Nat telling me she was with Steve for the night and not to go anywhere, and also one from Bucky.

Bucky: We should go for a walk tomorrow, we can explore the area and maybe some time out will be good?

Smiling I replied saying it would be nice, but of course I always second guessed myself.
