Chapter Eight
❤❤❤Aria’s POV❤❤❤
I calmly walked out of the room, but once I was in the hall, I was storming towards the boys’ dorm wing. Then I heard footsteps behind me.
“Aria!” Alek’s voice bounced off the walls and echoed through the empty walk ways. I stopped and turned around to wait while he caught up to me.
“Why are you following me?” I asked suspiciously as we started to walk together. He shrugged.
“You probably don’t know which room is his, but I do. This morning I figured out his is right next door to mine. That’s why I left my room in the first place.” I laughed and accepted his help. I had no idea where to even start.
“Well, thanks for the help Alek.” He walked a little in front and smiled back at me.
“No problem, anything to help you.” He said cheerfully. This boy, I dunno. He’s so, happy-go-lucky. I smiled to myself. I like Alek. Not like-like in that way, but he’s cool. I hope he sticks around with us for a while.
He started to walk faster and I struggled to keep up with him without breaking into a run.
“Alek! Stop walking so fast!” He was directly in front of me, maybe 10 feet ahead. I started to jog to catch up, but he turned around and I ran into him. He tried to catch me, but he stumbled backward and fell. I landed on top of him. “Oh my gosh Alek I’m so sorry!” I apologized and started to get up, but he just shook his head and smirked.
“It’s okay, I know you meant to do that.” I looked at him from my knees and gave him a questionable look.
“What are you talking about Alek?” I crossed my arms. He raised an eyebrow and copied my action.
“You’re serious to say that you didn’t mean for us to be in this position?” He gestured to our bodies and what position they were in. My jaw dropped at how weird he was being, and then I realized our stance. I was sitting on his waist with my knees on either side of him and he lay straight with his legs straight out.
I turned red and quickly got up, careful of not to step on him. Then started walking fast. He got up quickly and came after me. We walked in awkward silence the rest of the way to the boys’ wing.
When we got to the door that Alek said was Arron’s, I knocked. I could hear people saying, “Get the knights!” “Don’t forget the princess!” “Grab the dice!” I heard feet shuffling and people stumbling. I shook my head as Alek laughed; they were playing a nerd-game called ‘Dungeons and Dragons’. I couldn’t believe them. It was 2013 and they’re playing a game from the 1970s? Why can’t they play something their generation, like Minecraft or Halo 7…
To me, this just doesn’t make sense. People at the age of 15-18 playing a game meant for people who were now 50. I’m just like, ‘Get with the program people and find something regular to do.’ Alek chuckled, ‘Shoot was I thinking out loud again?’ I thought.
“Nah, your’e just mumbling Aria.” I looked at him and glared, then the door opened. Arron stood there and looked at me, then at Alek, and back to me.
“What do you want? We’re kinda busy.” Three people came up behind him, and I recognized them as the nerds in our school. They wore wide-brimmed black glasses and high-pulled up trousers, with tucked-in shirts. They all looked like the same person, and only their different hair styles distinguished who they were.
“Why did you ask Eve to come to your room for a date tomorrow evening?!” I asked, very loudly actually. So loudly, the nerds actually jumped at my tone of voice.I mentally laughed at how skittish they were. Oh gosh, I’m turning into Avery.
“I-I d-don’t know what your’e talking about! I never asked Eve to come over here!” He stuttered and I laughed loud.
“Pa-lease, everyone knows you’ve stalked Eve from the 8th grade! But why would you go and embarrass her when you know she doesn’t like you back, period?! You know she doesn’t like to be mean and say ‘no’ to guys, so why would you make her say yes, if you like her that much, at least respect her!” I yelled at him in front of his friends, felt pretty good about it, and stormed off. Alek looked from Arron, to me, and back. Then he shrugged and ran after me.
“UGH he just makes me so mad!” I was talking to myself, but apparently, Alek thought I was talking to him.
“But he didn’t do anything to you.” He tried calming me down, but he wasn’t doing a very good job.
“You know Alek, not everything revolves around one person. You have to think of others sometimes! This time, I’m thinking of Eve, and what she is to me. She’s my cousin, and my favorite one at that! So I have to stick up for her when she doesn’t want to.” I took a deep breath as Alek stood there, with a shocked expression on his face.
“Someone’s on her period…” He mumbled. I don’t think I was supposed to hear that, but I did. And my face got red.
“I AM NOT!” I turned on my heels and power-walked back towards our room. I could hear Alek’s footsteps behind me and I walked faster. Then I broke into a run. I wasn’t familiar with this part of school, because it was the boys’ quarters. So I was practically just running and turning down random corridors. When I was sure I was lost, I stopped running. I heard Alek following me and I turned around.
When I faced him he was already in front of me. His golden hair was plastered to his face from running, and I realized if he looked like crap, I must look like crap too. I sighed and looked him in the eyes.
“Sorry for yelling at you, I was being weird. Let’s go back.” He nodded and turned around to start walking again. He seemed to know exactly where he was going, and this was still his first day. It confused me.
“Why do you seem to know exactly where your’e going?” I asked him, walking next to him so that we were going the same pace. Then he looked down at me.
“I have photographic memory, and looked at a map of the school before coming today.” He smugly replied. I raised an eyebrow at him.
“So you will remember everything I tell you?” I was starting to regret telling him everything I did so far. He smirked.
“Mayyyyybe… Maybe not.” He chuckled and we focused on walking after that. We walked in silence, but it wasn’t an awkward silence, it was relaxing really. Almost everything was relaxing when it came to Alek.
“AND THAT’S WHY YOU SHOULDN’T MESS WITH HER, OR ANY OF MY FRIENDS. GOT IT?!” I heard Avery yelling and just assumed it was at Arron, and when I turned the corner, I found out I was right. Arron stood in the door frame with a frightened look on his face as Avery towered over him. She practically had smoke coming out of her ears. I’ve never seen her this mad, except for the time when our neighbor ripped her favorite stuffed animal. She learned from that and always found trustworthy friends.
“Yes sir! I-I m-mean m-ma’am!” Arron stuttered while he stood hopelessly in front of Avery. He glanced at us and looked at Alek, his eyes screamed, ‘Help me!’ and Alek calmly walked over.
“I think he knows not to mess with her anymore Avery. Let’s go back to let Eve know.” I couldn’t believe he was actually trying to calm Avery down. No one has been able to do that! It’s next to impossible. The next thing that happened was incredible, astonishing really.
“Yeah, okay, good idea.” Avery took deep breaths and her shoulders slowly descended from their rigid state. She threateningly stepped towards Arron in one quick moment, and then he screamed like a girl and shut the door fast. After about two seconds, we heard a click, and Avery laughed her head off. I shook my head and laughed along with her, taking her hand and dragging her away. She couldn’t really stand because she was laughing so much, so Alek helped me and grabbed her other arm.
