Chapter Ten
❤❤Avery’s POV❤❤❤
I couldn’t hear what Alek said, but by the look on Aria’s face, it couldn’t be good. Her eyes were wide and her lips were pressed together in a crease with worry. He looked down, and she gave him a hug.
“It’s ok.” I heard her say and she started rubbing circles in his back with her hand. “I’m here Alek, they won’t hurt you.” He pulled away from her and his face was pale. He look so frightened you would’ve thought a ghost jumped right into his body.
This was when I guess he noticed everyone was looking at him. He slowly stood up and walked towards the door. When he touched the doorknob a knock came from the other side. Alek jumped a little and I got up to see who it was. And like I expected, it was Brad.
I smiled at Eve and she got up to greet him. She waved ‘bye’ to all us girls and we all gave her a thumbs up. Alek already walked past Brad without a word and disappeared down the hall.
As Brad took Eve to their date, he closed the door of our room politely. We heard their feet walk away and disappear. I quickly turned to Aria.
“Wait what did Alek want?” She looked down and put her hands on her lap. She flipped them over one another and bit her lip; something she does when she doesn’t want to tell someone something.
“Do I have to tell you? I don’t know if Alek wants me to…” She seemed shy all of a sudden. She’s very protective over people she cares a lot about, but we just met Alek this morning. She can’t develop feelings for him this fast! That’s too much of a girly thing to do. I nodded and scooted closer to her to let her know I’d keep a secret. I was going to help Alek, whether he wants it or not. I’m just a kind person ok? Don’t judge.
“Ok… Well, Alek has being seeing these shadows ever since he’s been at this school. Not just any shadows, like shadows that would follow him. He just thought he was going crazy or something and imagining it, until just a few minutes ago… He said it grabbed his arm and tried to pull him away, but he screamed and Logan came running into their room. Then it disappeared.” She finished retelling what Alek told her and looked down at her fumbling hands. I felt sorry for her, but I mostly felt empathy for Alek. Aria worries too much, but Alek is the one who going through a lot right now. I mean how would you feel if you just moved to a new place and all of a sudden demon-like beings are chasing you? I most definitely wouldn’t stay there.
“This place is weird. We all have to make plans to get out of here as soon as possible. When Eve comes back, we’ll all talk about this.” I said. This made Aria look up at me with confusion.
“Leave the school? Or leave New York City?” Her eyes widened at the thought and I realized that she wouldn’t want to move away from our mom. She’s too precious to her, and myself.
“Well, if it comes down to it, yes. We can always bring Mom with us, wherever we go. Let’s make plans first and then we’ll confront them, ok Aria?” She smiled and nodded. She looked a lot more relieved, and I felt glad to make my sister feel better. Sometimes, I gotta be the mature one and calm everyone down. Yeah I know, sounds boring right? But it’s worth it if everyone’s happy.
Sometimes I wonder if Alek is just the odd one out. Like, maybe he’s a spy from Australia that came to ruin me and Aria’s life by making us do evil things. Nah, I’m just kidding! Alek and Logan are probably the best things that have ever happened to all of us. They make us seem more, I dunno, calm, I guess. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, ‘You’re crazier than this normally?!’ and the answer to that question, is yes, yes we are. Thank you for noticing.
