Chapter Four

Eve looked at me, “Who was that?”  I raised my eyebrow.  Did she really not know who that clown was?  Maybe she just didn’t recognize her.  She was wearing a lot of make-up.  

“That was Jessica, the slut of school.  You remember her right?  She’s the mean one who tries to steal your boyfriends all the time.”  That had to make her remember who she was.

Her face screwed up in disgust.  “Oh yeah, I remember her now.  I hate her…”  I never heard Eve say she hated anyone.  She was the most happiest person in the world.  Well that was my opinion.  I think everyone knew that too, she always wore bright clothes and didn’t care what anyone said about her, and she never listened to the mean things that people would say about anyone.  Of course, unless they deserved it.  Which Eve seemed to think that Jessica did.

“Yeah, me too.”  Avery rolled her eyes.  Everyone knew Avery didn’t just hate her, she despised  her.  And she encourages us all to stay away from her, “Don’t talk to her guys, she just wants attention.”  Logan, Alek, and Gavin all nodded their heads, just like good little boys trying to make their mother happy.  She was kind of like our mother, sort of.  Since we don’t get to see our real mother so much, she treats us like we’re her kids.  Except when the childish part comes in.  That’s when I take over.  And she gets childish very  fast. 

Then I heard a faint whisper, ‘I do too.’  I looked behind me, nobody’s there.  I glanced at everyone faces, doesn’t look like anyone said that.  And I certainly didn’t.  I’m like Eve, I believe life is too short to have regrets and hate people.  I shrugged it off and looked at the table.  Alek nudged me, and I looked up.  His eyes are such a pretty blue.  I got lost in them as he laughed and nudged me again.  That finally broke me out of his trance.

“You okay?”  I smiled and nodded.  He nodded once in response and then chatter resumed at our table.  I decided to just listen to everyone’s voices and laughter; I found it soothing somehow.  ‘I’m such a weird girl.’ I thought to myself and suppressed a low chuckle.  Alek turned back to me, opened his mouth, then closed it again.  Was he going to tell me something?

‘Ah I’ll tell her later.’  There was that whisper again.  I raise an eyebrow at him questioningly, was he the one whose voice was in my mind?  No I’m just going crazy.  ‘I’m such a weird girl.’  I repeated.  I pushed my glasses up higher on my nose and sighed, resting my chin on my hands so I could listen to Eve’s story.

“And then he was looking at me!  It was so awkward, I didn’t know boys could be flexible!  I just stood there after I had finished my round-offs and flips, I was too scared to go and talk to him.  I wish I had guts like you Avery.”  Her lips scrunched to the side of her mouth and Avery laughed.

“You bet your carrots you do!”  Avery laughed and Logan smirked.  

“Carrots eh?”  Logan chuckled, and Avery playfully hit him.  

“Don’t blame the carrots!  They’re people too ya know!”  She flashed one of her dazzling smiles and Logan laughed, winking at her.

Eve smirked and turned to Jess, “Tell them what happened in science!”  Jess’s face turned red and she looked down.  Gavin whispered something in her ear and her eyes got big.  Then her lips pursed into a tight smile.  She took a deep breath and looked up.

“I walked into science today, Eve knows what happened, she was there.”  She blushed and continued, “And Jessica’s my partner for lab.”  She scrunched up her nose and Gavin laughed. 

“EWWW OH MY GA I FEEL SO SORRY FOR YOU!”  Avery practically yelled.  I bet the classrooms on the other side of the school could've heard her… And yes, she does say ‘ga’ because she doesn’t think it’s necessary to speak about the Lord that way.

Jess giggled, “Yeah, I know.  And so we were doing our lab right, and today we worked on hydrogen bubbles.  Well somehow, she got it to explode.  It just went BOOM!  And then the teacher yelled at me!  I didn’t even do anything!  It was all  her, and Mr. Montgomery yelled at me and not her.  I mean, I’m a really good student in science and she’s like, the stupidest elephant ever to walk on this earth!  And that’s an insult to elephants!”  She took a breath as everyone laughed at her comment.  “Just cause she has sex with the teachers doesn't make it right to just her an A!”  Avery pretended to throw-up in her mouth.

“SHE DID WHAT?! THAT’S SO DISGUSTING!”  Logan yelled.  Him and Avery would make a perfect pair; they can both break someone’s eardrums.  They could practically be a super-hero pair, going around and yelling at the bad-guys, making their eardrums explode.  I chuckled at the thought.  

Alek whispered in my ear, “I hope you don’t do that.”  I looked at him and raised an eyebrow.

“You think I’d do that?”  I asked, fake hurt written all over my face.  It hurt, yeah, but I knew he didn’t mean it that way.  He was just failing to flirt with me.  I smirked at his shocked expression.  “I’m joking Alek!”  I hugged him, even though we just met today, I feel like we had known each other forever.  He rested his head on mine and laughed, “If you say so Aria.”  I loved this moment, and wanted it to last forever.  ‘I’m weird, why would he ever like me, stop thinking Aria, let go of him.’  I pulled away and he looked at me, ‘You ok?’  That voice again… 

“Yeah I’m fine.”  I waved him off and nodded.  Then he raised his eyebrows.  That’s when I realized everyone at the table was looking at me and Alek.

“I didn’t say anything Aria…”  Logan leaned back a little.

“Oh… I was just hearing things then…”  I looked down, ‘Oh gosh that was embarrassing!’ I thought to myself.  ‘I have to learn to keep my stupid mouth shut!’ I covered my face in my hands and groaned.  ‘Why does life have to be so embarrassing?  Oh right, I’m Aria…’ 

Someone was rubbing my back, their hand going in a circle, “It’s okay Aria, your’e not crazy.  If your’e anything, your’e amazingly awesome!”  I smiled at his lame attempt to cheer me up.  

Avery groaned, “JUST GET TOGETHER ALREADY!”She yelled and my eyes got big and I stood up and just ran.
