Y/n's POV:
All the movies and tv shows I watched always skipped pass the boring parts of birth, i.e., the entire labor portion. Hours and hours of waiting.
We've been here for six hours now, nurses and Dr. Patton flittering in and out of the room to check on Ari and the progress of the babies. As Dr. Patton expected, she was dilating 1 centimeter every hour. She's now 9 centimeters dilated and we're waiting again.
Our friends haven't left at all. Courtesy of Victoria's advice, they all came prepared to wait. They had blankets and bags of snacks and drinks. Everybody kept a charger on them, and the guys even brought their Switches so they could keep themselves entertained.
Every once and a while I went out there to update them or just get a bit of a breather. But my main focus was Ariana so of course I spent majority of my time in the room.
"You alright over there?" Ariana's sleepy voice cuts through the silence of the room, pulling me from my thoughts.
I sit up from my position on the couch, looking over at her and smiling a little. She'd fallen asleep about 45 minutes ago despite the pain the contractions have been causing her. Still, she looks as beautiful as ever, that cute sleepy smile on her lips, eyes slightly drooping.
"Yeah, I'm good, just thinkin about how long this has been and stuff. I don't wanna be impatient but I'm ready to meet my babies you know."
Ariana chuckles softly, shaking her head with a smile to match." Yeah I know. I'm not eager to be in pain but I can't wait to meet them either. We're so close but it still feels so far away." Her hand rests ever so gently on her stomach.
She's been doing it this whole pregnancy but this time we both know the meaning behind the touch, that thought of actually holding them instead of this ghost of a feeling.
I get up and walk over, pulling up the chair to sit beside her. Leaning in, I press a gentle kiss on her stomach, right where the babies usually kick. Since we've been in the hospital they haven't been kicking as much. Dr. Patton said they won't be kicking much since it's getting cramped in there and since they're shifting positions, getting ready to come out.
"You need anything? I'm gonna go check on everyone and grab a coffee." I tell her, standing up and brushing a strand of hair back behind her ear.
She looks up in thought, then back at me." Can you grab me an apple juice please?"
"Will do baby." I scoop up my phone, softly rubbing her leg as I pass the bed and head to the door.
Once outside the room, I head down the hall to the waiting room, it's a private one so it's smaller than the big one near the front desk. There are two four-seater couches, three arm chairs, a tv, coffee station, and two charging stations.
"Wassup y'all," I greet everyone as I step in, heading straight to the coffee station cause I'm gonna need all the caffeine if I want to be awake for the birth of my children.
Almost everyone gets up, eyes wide and expectant." Where are they? What happened?" Courtney asks in a rush.
I frown a little, then shake my head." Y'all relax. The nurse won't come around to check her dilation for another ten minutes or so. I was just comin to check on y'all and get some coffee."
They all groan and roll their eyes, the girls giving me a look I know all too well.
"Ain't nobody tell y'all to jump all up in excitement and shit. Keep ya happy asses still until I say otherwise." I tell them. Then I shake my head, taking a sip of my coffee." Now, y'all good? Don't need nothin?" They tell me no and I nod." Ight bet. Vic, Momma J, keep y'all phones close. Soon as the nurse say it's go time Ima text y'all. Ari and I want y'all in there during the birth."
