Desmond's POV

"Hey, welcome back."

I open my eyes and blink slowly, my vision slowly coming into focus.  When they do, I see Rebecca, Shaun, and Lucy looking down at me.

"Yeah, welcome back," I mutter sarcastically.  "How long have I been gone?"

"A long time," Lucy says.

I sigh and lean against my knees. "Damn..."

"At least you're alright," Rebecca says, shrugging.

"You think I'm alright, Rebecca?  I've just seen all of my ancestors sob over their dead family that they were rejoined with!  I don't think I'm okay!"

The three of them remain silent, and Lucy gently places her hand on my shoulder.

"Do you want to be alone for a bit?"

"Yes please."

"We're so glad to have you back," Rebecca says.

"Yeah, sure we are," Shaun mutters.

"Shut it, Shaun," Lucy snaps.

"Fine, fine."

I stand up from the animus and walk to my room.  As I close the door, I see the painting that Leonardo drew for me.  I stare at it for a while, and it feels like everything I've been through in the past two years is finally over.

It's over.  It's done.  There's nothing more.

I sigh and lie down on my bed, staring at the ceiling.

I've got a job to do while I'm on this Earth, and I'm going to do it.

Many Years Later

General POV

As Desmond lies in his bed, he looks at the faded painting that Leonardo drew for him years ago.  His frail body is old, and he knows his time is coming.

"My dear friends, I'm coming to join you," he whispers, touching the painting one last time.

As Desmond takes his last breath, everything goes black.

When he wakes, he is young again.  He's standing in front of the pearly gates, and behind the gates he can see all of his passed comrades and ancestors.

Ezio, Altair, Edward, Connor, Malik, Leonardo, and all of their families are standing there, smiling at him.

"Welcome home, Desmond," Leonardo says.

He grins at them and the gates open.  They welcome him in and Desmond walks through the gates.

He has completed his journey.
