Chapter 6: McDonalds Worker

Luna was doing her early routines of collecting some twigs and dried up leaves for their fire, she wore a hand knitted sweater Cheveyo personally made for her, it says ‘I’m hot, tsss’ which Cheveyo thinks is very true, Luna feels warm even without the sweater on. Luna gathers up as many twigs as her hands could carry. She spotted a deer which she hasn’t seen in years. It looks majestic and fragile. Luna slowly crept in the creature but she stepped on a twig which scared the deer away.

“Goodbye majestic creature.” Luna said, she smiled as it ran away and sighed, it runs like a runaway bride, so fast and yet with grace.

Luna heard a clicking sound of a gun behind her, Luna inhaled in deeply and exhaled, “You can’t hold a gun and hold your crutches, you’ll fall” Luna turned around and saw Ethan standing by, he’s was newly shaved and was wearing one of Cheveyo’s knitted caps. He wore his own McDonald’s manager jacket with his name tag already attached on. He's 34 and yet he could easily pass for a 29 year old

“I just wanted to see if your stealth skills are getting better.” Ethan puts the gun in one of his inside pocket and produced a small gift which was wrapped in newspaper, “Happy Birthday kiddo.”

Luna dropped the twigs besides her and took the present from Ethan’s hand, “Awwh, you shouldn’t have.”

“How old are you again? Seventeen is it?” Ethan asked, he watched as Luna uncovers what’s inside.

“I’m eighteen today, thank you for asking.” Luna finally opens her gift, it took her several minutes to do so, “Uhmm, an ID? A McDonalds ID?” Luna asked disappointedly, but she did smile for Ethan’s method.

“Yeah, you’re eighteen and you need a job.” Ethan said, he’s voice sounded very persuasive but Luna doesn’t look impressed.

“It’s a great gift, but no thanks.” Luna set the ID on fire with her own hands, “I don’t want to have a job where there’s food around, and I have to say, do you want fries with the sir?” Luna tried her best to do a great impression of a McDonalds employee.

“It doesn’t have to be forever,” Luna stopped listening and carried the twigs back to her hand, “Only a month or so and I could be personally hire you as the new manager, the boy they have in mind has no career at leading.”  Ethan tries to catch up on Luna’s fast pace of walking.

“Why would you even hire me as a manager? Isn’t that your job?” Luna stopped and looked at Ethan, “Where are you going anyway?” Luna asked.

Ethan went closer to Luna, “I haven’t discussed this with Cheveyo yet, but the board asked me to lead the new McDonalds in New York.” Ethan said.

Luna looked angry, she turned his back on him walking away, “You’re leaving us, you can’t just leave us.”

“And I’m not just leaving you guys, I’m giving you a job.” Ethan said.

Luna almost reached the house but Ethan stopped him, “Your eighteen my young lady, you could start supporting yourself.” Luna looked at Ethan with raging eyes and proceeds walking back to the house. She places the stacks of twigs inside an old mouldy cupboard.

Cheveyo coughs in her bed which causes Luna to go to her assistance, “Are you alright?” Cheveyo coughs more, her wrinkled hands touches Luna’s arm, “Water.” Cheveyo softly says. Luna left for a moment to fetch some water from a pitcher that was left over from breakfast. Luna took a cup and transferred the remaining water into the cup, into only filled the cup halfway.

Luna opened the doors and found Ethan talking with Leotie, a local Urdine who lives by the river close by, being the former Volturnus guardian, Ethan still has the influence talk to water creatures, “Ethan, get some more water from the well!” Luna shouted out, Leotie waved and giggled before running off to the woods where she disappeared by the trees.
