Chapter 24: Eavesdropping
Someone knocked on the door which woke both Jessica and Luna but not Patina and Pippin. It was Nel already dressed up in his usual formal suit. “How’s our guests?” he asked calmly with two cups of coffee which Luna and Jessica took.
Jessica stretched out for a bit while wiping some drool which escaped from her mouth. “I don’t know, it was so quiet last night,” she said.
“You fell asleep quite early that’s why.” Luna said and sipped on the hot coffee. Patina and Pippin were both undisturbed even with their normal volume voices, or were they pretending like what they did yesterday.
Nel sat on one of the tables as he watched over the twins still heavily asleep. “Did something strange happen last night?”
Luna looked over the two twins and the brief conversation they had yesterday. “Nothing,” she said, the twins looked like good innocent people, and the information they gave out yesterday wasn’t helpful. But one thing was for sure, they weren’t normal if they were in need of saving.
“Cool, I’ll take it from here, you gals better get ready. Training starts in two hours.”
“Great.” Jessica said sarcastically and both the girls exited the room with a handful of people waiting outside. “Nothing interesting happened people.” Jessica exclaimed out and didn’t answer any colleagues she passed by.
Luna went immediately to her room where Isabelle was nowhere to be found. She immediately undressed and placed on her training uniform. She felt very restless and tired, she scrutinized herself in the bathroom mirror. Dark circles appeared below her eyes, hair was very untidy and overall she didn’t feel very well.
Luna stopped herself from staring too much from her reflection, she bent over to wash her face but when she returned back at looking at the mirror, the girl staring back at her looked flawless, too flawless and that’s when Luna wondered. She turned her head and the reflection followed but one thing scared her, the reflection smiled on its own.
“Been a long time,” the reflection spoke and the whole background slowly went up into flames just like a forest fire except within a room.
“Pele,” Luna whispered. “It’s been a very long time, like years?”
The goddess smiled as Luna’s reflection slowly morphed to Pele’s image, the youthful tanned goddess with plum lips, and flaming dress. “I can see you’ve been talking to certain people, certain guardians.” She emphasized on the word guardian.
“I have never considered the offer, maybe you could tell me what to do.” Luna asked and sat on the bed while she held on her hand the stone the guardian gave him. She didn’t know how it worked or how it will work but her mind was too wrapped up on other things.
“I’ve always hated Geb, and he always hated us, the modern champions of the elements, he was old and ancient. Only encountered him once and never would I want to encounter such stubborn being.” Pele muttered through the glass mirror. “No one wanted to admit it, but Geb had something to do with the death of the late air champion Eurus and the retirement of former water champion Amphitrite, he hated both of them.” Pele assured Luna. “And I’m pretty sure he hates Ayao as well.”
Luna looked over Pele in confusion. “What are you saying?”
Pele grinned. “I’m saying nothing but not to trust.”
Luna took in the information given by Pele. “Can I ask one more question?”
Pele looked over Luna, “Whatever your heart desires.”
