Chapter 35: Geb
Eliza was quiet and calm even though the alarms outside were ear shattering. Luna was still grieving but found peace in herself. Charlie wasn’t the only person who died in her life, she remembered her parents, she never mourned for them, part of her knew that they were safe in the Elysian Fields just like Pele promised.
“Somebody’s coming,” Eliza anticipated as she stared at the door together with Luna. Somebody did clutch the doorknob slowly which made them alert. The door swung open and the slim figure of the earth guardian surprised them.
“It’s just you,” Luna sighed and leaned on the table. Her level of anxiousness increased with the noise outside but luckily it stopped a few minutes after the guardian came in the room. “What are you doing here?”
“What am I doing here? Doing my job.” The guardian said and walked over to Eliza. She was getting creepy with the guardian as the hair on her skin rose and Eliza wasn’t the only one, Luna always find the guardian creepy.
“Let’s go,” the guardian said and tugged Eliza away from Luna. Eliza didn’t complain, she was just surprise and went along with it.
“Hey, what the hell man.” Luna caught up just before the guardian leave the room. “She’s my responsibility to.”
The guardian gave Luna a menacing look and summoned a handful of concrete from the floor and glued them on Luna’s foot so she’ll be cemented on the floor. “What are you doing?” Luna complained as she tried to take her foot off the floor. The guardian didn’t answer and kept on tugging Eliza, almost to the Core, she was screaming which was bad. Luna summoned her fire and transported herself to Core, it worked with no cement left on her foot.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Luna said in her angry voice, she wasn’t able to get a touch on Eliza, the host won’t let her.
“What is rightful, I couldn’t let them do the ritual of sacrifice to Eliza, that would only make Jenevere pass to another host. But killing her will kill the goddess inside.” While the host was explaining, a huge load of concrete suddenly appeared from the ground, and this time it glued Luna from the neck down to her feet. Luna wasn’t able to move hence immobilized and can’t summon fire at all.
“You’re crazy, that would kill the earth, and kill million of lives.” Luna growled out as she tried to break free of the cement but it was no use, it was rock hard.
“That’s where you’re wrong, you see the earth is my territory, my forte not Jenevere’s.” From then the host’s voice started to change to a soar elderly voice that seemed like he needed water and yet speak fluently. It was still the slim figure of the host, but this wasn’t the host anymore, it was Geb whom Luna was talking to.
Eliza was obviously scared, the grip of the host was already hurting her. Veins appeared from her arm the scream from the top of her lungs was so loud but nobody came in to save her. The whole building was deserted probably because of the warning, but Luna noticed something else. From the far corner of the south wing were dead bodies and from the tip of her view she saw a dead woman lying on the ground, and there was rocks and sand all over her suit. She couldn’t believe that the host of Geb was so cruel.
“The earth was okay back when I ruled in the days, the Egyptian gods, what a glorious era that was but then the Universe decided it needed a spirit to guide the humans, Jenevere, a pathetic little goddess who was so fragile it can’t even defend for itself.” The god said.
Eliza was starting to panic, no matter how hard she tried, the god didn’t budged.
“Humans require discipline, they need to live in fear once again. They do not deserve the life they live right now. They deserve less just like the way they treated the earth. Disgusting beings,” the god spitted on the ground, even though it was cement a tiny plant about an inch tall sprout out of it.
“You either join me or not.” The god asked, his eyes turned black and his arms slowly glistened like gold.
Luna was utterly scared but she didn’t show it, she faced her fears right in the eye. “You’re crazy.” She spitted out.
“Then you die as well.”
The god released Eliza for a quick moment but a ton of cement covered her body with only her head coming out.
“I’ve always hated Pele, she looked strong but inside she’s weak.” The host summoned more cement from the ground trying to cover every last bit of Luna’s face.
A huge gush of wind saved Luna from suffocation; it threw the god all the way to the hallway of the east wing. “I’ve always hated Geb, I really do.” Martha was there to save her and for the first time, she was wearing flats instead of heels.
“Martha, a bonus.” The god said and disappeared from the ground and in front of Martha in lightning speed. Martha didn’t flinch at all, another gust of wind exploded from her hands and overthrew the guardian all the way to the wall where the big painting of King Charles VII was hang.
The god giggled, his body was fully gold which made him stand out in a weird way. He ran to Martha with big spikes of earth that came out of the ground. The spikes were huge but Martha summoned a mini tornado at the middle of the core, it shattered the spikes on contact but the god came in with a big block of cement and tossed it on Martha’s direction hitting her with great impact.
The tornado vanished together with Martha’s fall but she wasn’t out of the game yet. She brushed of dust from her shoulder and fought.
The good thing about the tornado was it took chunks of cement from Luna’s body and weakened it. She didn’t even need to summon fire, she only broke free with the use of her strength. Eliza was almost free as well. Only her legs were stuck which Luna didn’t have the hard time to break. Eliza ran to the west wing and hid while Luna helped Martha.
Martha wasn’t exactly winning, but she wasn’t losing as well. Maybe she looked a pinch more exhausted than the god who came in with spike after spike of earth which Martha kept on deflecting with gusts of wind. She wasn’t attacking, only defending which took away most of her energy.
Luna came in with a surprise attack from behind sending a huge fireball, the size of her body flying down to Geb, she caught it’s attention and walked away from Martha, from which had a huge gulp of air for the first time. Luna sent more little fireball which didn’t work out as well when Geb summoned a concrete wall to deflect the attacks.
“Is that all you got?” Geb mocked when Luna stopped after figuring that her strategy wasn’t working.
“No, not at all.” Luna knew her attacks may not work against his speed. Only a tremendous amount of fire may defeat him, then she remembered Cheveyo’s big wall of fire, a long shot since Luna never tried it before but it was her only choice.
Luna summoned a bit of fire which circled around Geb , it caught his attention by trying to extinguish it. The fire grew into a flaming inferno twister that was larger than Martha’s mini tornado. Geb screamed as his skin burned, Luna wasn’t able to get a clear view, she was too focused that her nose dripped with blood.
The screams stopped and so did Luna’s twister. It was worth the try but Geb escaped leaving a huge hole on the Core’s floor. Fire inflicted his body but he was still alive or surviving. Martha stood up, exhausted from the fight. Luna was wobbly but she kept together and wiped the blood of her face.
Eliza was fine, she ran quickly to Luna who fell to the floor lying. She had to take a few deep breaths before she stood up once again.
“Are you okay?” Eliza asked and her voice once again was very comforting that Luna felt she regained half of her energy that was lost.
“Yeah, I’m alright.”
Martha was impressed with Luna, she gave her an approving smile before checking her phone. Bobby had three missed calls. They needed them.
“We need to go,” Martha said. And Eliza didn’t need another word, she took both of their hands and they were transported to the hospital where everything was in chaos.
