TW: broken bone, pain, and shock (the medical condition)

Virgil walked around the town library, in the religious section. He already had a stack of books from the myth section in his arms.

It was Saturday and Virgil wanted some answers. Luckily Patton wasn't there, he didn't want to get into a huge talk about religion with anyone, he just wanted to know why he keeps dreaming about winged humans.

They couldn't be angels. Angel's don't kill humans, they protect them! They had to be something else. Do demons have wings?

Virgil set his books down on a table and started reading, skipping straight to any chapters about malevolent winged creatures. Harpies, fae, griffins, furies, sirens, and the list goes on.

Virgil was jotting down notes and crossed out any names it couldn't have been. It was a humanoid, so not a griffin, it had feathers so not fae or furies.

All that was left was sirens since harpies and other creatures like them had wings for their arms and whatever is in his dreams had wings on their back. Plus, most creatures from both mythology or religions had the bottom half of a bird instead of just the wings.

Sighing, Virgil leaned back in his chair. He highly doubted that he was being chased by sirens in his dreams, and he had a feeling it wasn't a siren that fell in front of the car that night. He was just being paranoid.

He heard his phone start to ring and saw Roman's name before answering.

"Hey Ro, what's up?" he asked.

"Are you busy? Cause I was wondering if you wanted to go to that cafe I told you about," he offered. "My treat."

"Sure, that would be nice. I'm just finishing something up."

He heard some shouting and turned to see through a bookshelf two guys arguing with each other.

"Is everything alright over there?" Roman asked, he must have heard through the phone.

Virgil stood up and started to collect his books. "Yeah, just some guys arguing about something in the library. Send me the address of the cafe, I'll meet-"

He froze when he saw a white feather floating in front of him, followed by a loud crash.

Virgil jumped and turned to see one of the guys had pushed the other into the bookshelf. His eyes widened as the books startled tumbling off as it fell towards him.

He dropped his phone and jumped out of the way, but it wasn't far enough. There was a loud snap before fire climbed up his leg in less than a second. Virgil was sure he screamed but so much started to happen at once. His ears started to ring and black spots quickly danced in his eyes.

He tried to steady his breathing as the snap echoed in his head. Why wasn't anyone helping him? Was anyone moving around him?

He put his forehead against the floor as nausea hit him. His leg started going numb, that was the second bone he broke in a year.

There were voices, someone sounded angry and desperate. They were shouting and a few moments later the pressure was relieved from his leg.

Virgil let out a whine as hands grabbed him. He felt himself being turned on his back and he let out a broken sob when hands touched his leg.

He felt his conscious waver, everything seemed to be happening so fast. One moment, someone was putting something soft under his head, the next he was strapped down in something that was moving.

His body felt cold except for his leg. He could feel sweat on the back of his neck and he let out another whine as another wave of nausea hit him.

He thought he heard someone call his name, and the last thing that came to his mind was Roman right before he passed out.
