JESS stared out the window of Bruce's guest bedroom that night.

She gazed at the stars, which were gradually being obscured by the evening fog. In frustration, she let out a light sigh. She desperately wanted to sleep, but she knew what would happen if she forced herself to close her eyes.

Jess rolled onto her back and fiddled with the fabric on the white sheets. She wished she could go outside and sit under the stars. Just trying to keep up with everything that has been happening so quickly. It was all too much to take in: Steppenwolf, Thymescira, the mother boxes, and other meta-humans.

"Yes... she shall be of use."

She rubbed her eyes with a grunt, her gaze fixed on the ceiling. If that means she'll be used for evil, they know something she doesn't. Jess huffed angrily before flailing her legs in an attempt to get rid of the black blanket.

"Fuck!" She hissed and jumped out of bed in one swift motion. She was usually this way when she couldn't sleep. So, her night of getting a good night's sleep was ruined.

She wanted to say something to Bruce, but she heard the car drive away, implying that he was on his way to the airport. She marched out of her room, wearing a robe Bruce had purchased for her before they drove to the house. She became aware of all the lights around her being off.

Jess came to a halt in the middle of the corridor. In the dark, the hallway seemed much further away than it did when the lights were turned on. When she felt phantom pain, she scratched her injured arm before wincing.

Her arm wasn't completely healed, but she could move it without pain shooting up her arm. Unless she was having a nervous breakdown. Jess squeezed her hand into a fist. She's never been afraid of the dark, it never gave her any reason to.

She could walk through it blindly without a goosebump on her arm. She assumed that's how she fell for Batman. She wasn't scared of the darkness that surrounded him, and she still isn't. He approached her as if night and day had collided.

She yearned for her former self. She could see the best in people, such as Batman, but all she saw was the dark. That is what frightens her. She was now terrified of confronting her own demons. They've finally caught up to her after she's been running away from them for so long.

"Madam Kent?" Jess was startled by the soft voice. The light above is turned on, illuminating Alfred with a worried expression. "Are you okay? You appear to have seen a ghost."

With a thick swallow, Jess felt herself wipe at a tear in her eye. "Yes, sorry to worry you, Alfred." She laughed softly. "I was just thirsty. I didn't disturb you, did I?"

"No, no, I was in the Batcave." Alfred reached his hand out for her to grab. "Come, I'll make you tea."

It was silent between the two, the only sounds were the water filling up in the kettle. "Did Bruce leave?"
