ONCE the team made it out of the tunnel, ambulances and cop cars were swarming around a makeshift camp.
Diana and Bruce were the first to look for their fallen comrade. Barry, who was fully healed, ran around to each tent until he found the one Jess was in. He called out to Bruce and Diana. "I found her!"
"Heart rate's dropping!" The medical nurse shouted. "She's going into cardiac arrest."
"Push 1 cc of epinephrine." The doctor instructed watching the heart monitor after they pushed the adrenaline into her IV. "No pulse, starting compressions."
The doctor hopped up onto the table, locking her fingers over one another, and began pressing down onto Jessica's chest in a steady, desperate, beat. Diana turned her head away while Bruce stared with his jaw clenched.
"Come on Jess... Come on." He placed his hand on the plastic window with a lump in his throat. "I can't lose you..."
"Still no pulse." The nurse spoke but the doctor continued to pump. "Doctor..."
"I know!" She growled as her pumping slowed down. She climbed off of the table with a sigh. She checked her watch, ready to read Jess's time of death when everything slowed down followed by footsteps.
"For fucks sake." The voice huffed. Jess fluttered her eyes open to see no one in the tent beside her and a man, in a black suit, hiding in the shadows. A toothpick was flicked onto the ground as the man in the shadows walked out. "I told you not to do anything dumb and now look."
Jess groaned at the sight of John Constantine glaring at her. "Dammit."
"Dammit is right." He growled.
"Did I die?" She asked, holding her wound that was still open.
John stuffed his hands into his pockets. "No, you're on the border." He stared at her as Jess tried to get up. "You got too close this time."
"I'm not suicidal anymore if that's what you're talking about."
"I'm talking about when Clark died." John stated. He grabbed her shoulder, stopping her from moving. "I had to pull you out before you decided to go with him."
Jess glared at him. "You should've let me die."
"Then what? Leave the world without a hero?"
"What good am I to anyone if I end up wounded like this?" She hissed. "Last time I checked John, I'm not Superwoman without my powers."
John rolled his eyes. "Jesus, for someone with an IQ of 200, you're pretty fucking dumb." Jess glared at him. "You don't need your powers to be Superwoman, that's not what made you, but I'll leave you to figure that out."
"The fight with Steppenwolf wasn't entirely my fault you know."
John pointed his finger at her with a hard stare. "You fought, got yourself fucked up, and still pushed your body beyond its limits."
