Starting at the End

Lets be alone together.
We can stay young forever.
Screaming from the top of your lungs, lungs, lungs.

"How do you even begin to search Heaven?"

"I don't know. We walk around." Jack dragged his feet. He still hadn't gotten over Gwen. I wasn't going to press him about her.

So we walked in silence for a long while.

Then we slept.

The next day we did the same thing.

And the next.

And a week after that.

I was so tired. Ugh. Jack's incessant wailing had kept me up into unholy hours. Yes, even in Heaven there are unholy hours.

I rolled over and cracked my eyes open a slight bit. Jack must have gone to sleep eventually. Ugh. I love him (in an friendly way) but we need to find Gwen soon or I will kill him over again.

Silence. So Jack was still sleeping. "Jack... Wake up." I felt around for his shoulder. "Jack..." Had he not fallen asleep in the sleeping bag? I squinted at the sudden light. Then my eyes adjusted.

And I was running.

"Jack!" I yelled. "Jack where are you?" He had left all of his things behind, he couldn't have gone far, right? Right?

I saw a silhouette. Oh thank God. Then I saw the braid. "Damien?" She called out.

"Gwen?" I stared. The figure grew closer and closer until-

"Damien what's wrong?" Bianca asked. Her brow furrowed.

"Jack is gone. Disappeared just like Gwen did."

"How many days has it been?"

"I just noticed."

"No, dimwit. Since Gwen disappeared."

"Today's the tenth day she's been gone."

Biancs turned away, calculating something. "Every ten days... No one straight... Oh God no."

"What?"

She spun and grabbed me by the collar, lifting me up. "Sons of bitches like you! They're gone now! Out of Heaven!" Tears of hot fury streamed down her face. "God knows where they are now!"

"Bianca," I choked out. "What are you talking about?"

"Heaven molds to the all around Earth image of it. We survived on America's support. Not many countries were for gay equality, but with America's mostly support, we were alright. Now too many people believe gays don't belong in Heaven. Now..."

"They're in Hell?"

Two weeks ago I would've laughed. Two weeks ago I would've said they deserved it. Two weeks ago I would've torn down a gay pride parade and two weeks ago I would've enjoyed it.

But Jack? Sassy, fabulous Jack?

Gwen? Who wouldn't hurt a soul?

Were they in the pit?

"Worse." Bianca said grimly. "They're alive again."

Mah. God. This is just ugh.

I'm so proud of myself.
