My Ex Mafia
Chapter 5

It was Monday morning in New York City. The sun shined bright as it was the middle of summer. Nicole woke up with a strong headache as she had a hangover. She was in no mood to do anything today but she had to get ready for her new job, she refused to be late on the first day, she got out of bed and took a cold shower to wake herself up.

She got dressed in an above the knee length plain skirt with a white shirt on. To complete her look she wore a belt to keep everything neat. Nicole lived in a one bedroom apartment that her parents rented for her while she got a job. She felt the need to no longer stay with her parents as she wanted to be independent.

Once she got dressed she made her way with her car down street to the local Cafe for a quick coffee and breakfast before work began.

Then long felt endless as she stood in it for a while before they could take in her order. "no way it's the drunk girl from the club yesterday" he said with a laugh as he stood behind her. She couldn't pin point exactly who he was but she remembered his voice. "and you're the guy who wouldn't leave me alone" she said in an obnoxious voice not pleased by him at all. "ouch okay, my names Kevin, Kevin Hunter and you are Miss?" he said as he placed his hand to shake hers but she just looked at his hand stretched out.

"well then if you don't want to talk I guess I'll leave you alone" he said as he walked infront of her cutting everyone in the line. "Hey you can't do that!" Nicole said clearly upset and annoyed with Kevin. He looked back at her and smiled. He took out his badge and showed the boy working at the counter. "Detective Kevin Hunter, I ordered in advance yesterday, I'm here to pick up"

The worker handed him his order and walked back to Nicole. "want some?" he offered her and she sighed. She followed him to an open table and shared his breakfast with him. She had no choice, she didnt want to be late to work on an empty stomach so she took Kevin's offer. " so you're a Directive huh?" she said with a mouth full of bread. He chuckled at her and she felt embarrassed. "yep and you are?" he asked as he wanted to get to know the beautiful person in front of him.

"Nicole Hues, I'm a publisher for the New York times, well I'm starting today actually" Kevins face shifted as he tried to hide a look of disappointment "so you're Gravanos girl" be let out and suddenly Nicole lost her appetite. "I'm no one's girl detective." she stood up and was ready to leave "so you're single?" and she stopped, she couldn't help but chuckle at his question. "yes I'm single Detective." she said as she turned to face him. "well then since you're single how about I take you out to dinner Friday night" he smirked as he stood up to face Nicole.

She was about to respond but he gave her a card with his number on it. " call me later with an answer? Don't want you to be late for work now" he said and walked away, Nicole checked the time and rushed back to her car to an unpleasant surprise waiting for her.

It was a tall muscular man playing on his phone waiting for her to finally come out the Cafe. She was not in the mood for any more distractions as it was time to get to work. "what do you want Rico, I'm late" she said as she stood in front of him. "let me drive you to work" he insisted "I have a car Rico so there's no need" she said as she made her way around the the driver's seat door. "then let me drive your car, we need to talk Nikky"

Nikky is the nickname he gave Nicole before the fall out. Rico and her used to be very close with each other, Sylvester asked him to look out for her whenever he couldn't and that's what he did. Rico became the older brother figure that she needed and she did everything with him. He would always drive her around and take her out for lunch and he would always make sure she was safe.

He had no intention of having their bond break but once she found out exactly what he was to Sylvester and the Gravano family she left him as well. She wouldn't answer any of his calls or texts, she left him in the dark until Sylvester told him what happened. Rico was hurt by the fact that she left but he had to stay by Sylvester as it hit him the hardest.

"fine. But I'm driving and you better make it quick." Nicole said as they both got into the car. He was a little bit excited to finally talk to her once more, he missed her a lot and had no intention of leaving her or letting her get hurt once more but he only had one thing he needed to do and that was to fix Nicole's and Sylvesters bond. Even if he couldn't help their emotional state he knew that the only way Sylvester would be okay in the world he needed to have Nicole close by.

"he misses you" Rico let out with a smirk on his face. She wasn't fazed by Ricos accusation "Sylvester is unable to have any type of emotional attachment or feelings for the matter" shaking her head as she gripped onto the steering wheel tighter. "he needs you Nicole, he hasn't been the same since the day you left-" she cut him off before he could finish "and what? You think I've been okay since that day, He fucking killed somebody Rico" she stated as she could feel her body tense up. "it's his Job" he said keeping his cool "to kill innocent people?!" "Richard was not an innocent man" a little louder than he intended his voice to be.

"so what that justifies Sylvester killing him? I saw him Rico, I saw the fear that Sully implemented into Richard and he enjoyed it. He enjoyed causing pain, he enjoyed hurting somebody, torturing them with a knife being pressed into their chests...slowly. I'm sure that what ever Richard did was not as bad as what you guys did to him that day." she said as she replayed that night in her head. " I couldn't sleep for days Rico, I was Traumatized and you kept that side of Sylvester hidden from me. You watched me slowly fall head over heels with him and you kept quiet about it all. I thought we were friends" she said as she pulled up to her new job office.

Slowly parking the car on the side of the road, refusing to let go of the steering wheel trying to control her breathing. "we are friends Nicole and you know it wasn't my story to tell. Sylvester didn't want you to be apart of that life, he thought he was keeping you safe if you didn't know. Im sorry about all the drama and trauma that it caused you but it was not my story to tell. Listen I didn't come here to fight with you I just came here to ask you, please... Just come by the house tonight and we can talk about everything, hear his side properly." Rico said before getting out of the car and getting into another behind Nicole's.
