Her silky black hair waved in the wind as she walked along the ancient streets of Sokovia. Her soft, pink sundress flowed to her thighs and held itself up with ribbons that were tied to her neck. She wore sandals that clicked softly on the stones as she walked through the market her father worked in. She was delivering his lunch, her mother too preoccupied with her younger brothers. Her youngest brother, Josef, was thirteen, while the other, Martin, was fifteen. Katerina was twenty-four herself. The age gap between her family made things challenging to connect with he brothers, but that did not mean they weren't close. Her family was one of the closest in Sokovia; the town she lived in knew about the tight-knit family. Her father worked at the biggest market in the city, and Katerina often helped the children at schools when she had the time. She was intelligent, clever, and had a keen eye. She was terrific at reading people, and she could always tell if someone was lying. She called it her superpower, especially to her brothers. The town loved everyone. Everyone knew each other, and Katerina loved it.

"Katti! What are you doing here, lovely?" Her father asked in their native tongue. Katerina smiled widely at her father and kissed both of his cheeks when they approached in greeting.

"Mama has given me the duty of giving you the lunch you forgot at home. You keep forgetting, and I'm starting to think of your head as ill, old man." She laughed. Her father laughed loudly and playfully shook his long finger in her direction.

"You play too much, Katti." He said between his giggles. Katerina couldn't stop herself from laughing either. Some people looked at them and smiled, happy to see a family moment.

"Well, I should get going. I volunteered today at the school." She told him, handing over the lunch bag and bowing her head in goodbye. He kissed her forehead before he waved her off with a smile. Katerina was happy about today, but she couldn't stop the nagging feeling that told her to run. To get to safety and find her family. However, Katerina shook the feelings away and smiled at everyone she passed and entered the school.

"Katerina, it is lovely to have you today!" The teacher smiled. He was in his late fifties and had a large smile with a hawkish nose. He was her favorite teacher to work under. He was kind to the students and taught them with his best ability.

"Katerina!" The children cheered. Katerina smiled and hugged the ones who ran to her.

Suddenly, the ground began to shake, and the sound of faraway shooting sounded through the town. The kids screamed and hid underneath their desks. Some ran to the windows to find someone flying in the sky.

"It's Ironman!" A boy yelled, pointing to the sky. Katerina had heard the stories of the man, and though she thought the man shouldn't have that much power, she knew they only wanted to help the world. But what was he doing in Sokovia?

"Children, stay under the desks," Katerina yelled and ushered the young children under the desks for protection. She ran outside to see what everyone else was doing. She saw robots in the street that began to shoot at the civilians. Everyone screamed and began to turn away. Some fought back on the robots, hitting them with poles and bats to keep them at bay. As chaos began to ensue, Ironman came and shot them down and began to speak to her people.

"This place is not safe. Evacuate." He demanded. Everyone looked towards another, most not understanding his English. But Katerina did, and she repeated his words and helped people get to their homes.

"Papa!" She screamed, looking around for her father. More robots began to destroy the buildings, shooting people and fighting more so-called heroes. Katerina's eyes widened when she saw bombs start to fall from the sky. They all had 'Stark' plastered on them before they blew up. Why would he do this to them again?

Katerina screamed for her family, running to her home. But when she got there, another bomb was falling from the sky, and a man yelled at her to run, dragging her away from her house.

"No! Mama! Josef! Martin!" She yelled as the man picked her up and led her away. She was brought to the town square, where people were gathered.

Suddenly, the ground shifted, and she watched as they were lifted into the air. More people were fighting, and she had to watch as her country was being destroyed. She cried until her tears could no longer flow. The ground lowered back to its original state, but the damage had been done. Almost every building was turned to rubble, and the roads turned to mere stones. It took days to find her family, their bodies being pulled out by the American and Sokovian forces. That's when she broke, screaming and crying into the chest of the nearby person. She was being pulled back before she escaped the grasp of a man, falling to her knees at the bodies of her brothers and mother. Everyone gasped at the sight of her broken sobs and shaking body.

"Mama... Josef... Martin..." She sobbed softly and gently ran her soft fingers across their faces. They were gone. And it was all their fault. Those bombs... those robots. They killed her family. Destroyed her country. They had to pay for their crimes.

Katerina prided herself on being a good person... but now? That was going to change.
