Katerina had definitely felt way better days. The woman was depressed, and watching her husband get hauled off to Berlin to be put into life in prison was not her favorite. No one knew of her existence, and she had to have a plan. She knew she was going to see her love again. It wasn't in her to just... let him rot.
"How are you holding up?" Mistie asked as the two women sat at their favorite coffee shop. Katerina sighed and flicked a start hair away from her eyes.
"As good as I can be." She replied. Mistie nodded in reply and rubbed the somber woman's shoulders.
"I just miss him." Katerina played with her spoon and sturred her tea some more, looking up at her german friend.
"Yes, well, you can get to him. You're a smart girl. You will find a way. And I know some people who work at the prison..." Mistie knew everything by now. After years of friendship and respect, Katerina knew she could trust her. Plus, Mistie had her own criminal background. They had dirt on both of each other, so if one went down, so did the other.
"It has been months since he's been in there. I've just been pathetic and sitting around hoping he'd just escape." Katerina cried, although no tears fell. Mistie tutted the woman, and she sighed.
"You'll figure it out. We can do this. You'll see him again." Mistie spoke firmly. Katerina nodded and rubbed her face.
"You're right. Let's do this."
The two women got to work on trying to find a way to see Helmut. The prison was in top shape, however, Mistie had insiders she knew. Corrupt guards and stealthy prisoners. Katerina found out that the Warden had a family, a family he was very attached to. So, the two women formulated a plan; take the family, threaten the Warden, and get her discrete access to the prison.
When the time came to kidnap the family, Mistie had called her contacts to a local Berlin mafia, who was all willing to help. The men captured the wife and two kids, brought them to the warehouse, and Katerina was now ready in the warehouse, about to call the Warden.
"Make sure the family is not harmed until I say so. He needs to see it. Tie them up to chairs. The mother is hysterical, that's good. A good show means I get what I want." Katerina told the men and women in the room. Everyone nodded and set to work. One tall man, the leader of the mafia group, handed her an iPad that could call people on it. The man's number was there, and Katerina prepared herself. Mistie watched and gave her a thumbs up to encourage her.
"Hello, Warden." She spoke after hitting the call button, the man answered.
"Who is this?"
"My name does not matter. However, I have something you need to see." The woman hit the facetime call button and directed the camera to his family, who cried beneath their gags and stared at the camera with pleading faces.
"What have you done?" He screamed into the phone. Katerina watched as he panicked and walked into a quiet room, ensuring no one else was around.
"I have my demands. They will be sent to you via letter. If those demands are not met," she held out a gun for him to see, the family crying harder, "I kill them."
"O-okay. Okay. I will- will do what you ask of me." The Warden stuttered.
"And if I find out that you contact anyone about this. They die. If my needs are not met, they die a slow and painful death while you watch. Do you understand?" She demanded. The Warden nodded through the camera, looking like he was about to faint. Katerina hung up, and the letter was sent, sure to arrive the next day.
The woman waited for a call back; the letter explicitly told him when he received it. The call came the next day, and the family was released, though watched and monitored heavily by snipers everywhere they went. The plan was successful, and Katerina was ready to see her beloved.
Katerina had dressed in one of the dresses Helmut had bought her, her hair combed and curled to perfection with little makeup applied. She wore a mask for the first half of the entry to the prison, taking them off when she knew the cameras would be off.
"Katerina!" Helmut chuckled in surprise. He was reading a book in his cell when she approached, lounging in his uniform. His smile was wide and full of love.
"My love, I'm so happy to see you," Katerina told him, opening the cell and stepping inside.
"I knew you come. Just didn't think it would take so long." He gave her a pointed look, and she sighed.
"Things got in the way. I was sad to see you go and had to make the perfect plan. But I am here now, love." Katerina then kissed him, arms wrapped around his neck as she pulled her body towards him. Helmut placed his large hands on her hips and squeezed, moaning into the intense kiss.
"Oh, how I've missed you." He muttered when they pulled away, caressing her cheek gently. Katerina leaned into his fingers, placing soft kisses on them. Helmut smiled even softer, his face melting into bliss.
"I need to figure out a way to get you out of here permanently." The woman sighed, placing her forehead into the crook of his neck.
"We can't. We both know that."
"We can go to Mandripoor. They won't find us there." Katerina pleaded.
"I don't want to put you in any more danger than I already have. You are my life, Kati. I can't lose you." Zemo told her tenderly, and Katerina sighed once more. He was right. He always was.
"I- I know. I just miss staying with you, living with you. Being able to do normal things with you. The bed is so empty without you." Tears welled into her eyes as she spoke, and Helmut quickly wiped them away.
"We will overcome this." He spoke sternly. Katerina nodded and placed her forehead against his.
