Katerina knew her darkness was growing the day she watched Kaprov die, and she knew Helmut knew about her darkness. It swarmed inside her like ink in her veins. However, she wasn't afraid of it, and she knew Helmut felt the same. That... dark side of her. He had it too. When he was in the forces, he told her about what he had to do, why he had to do it, and how he felt indifferent about the lives he had taken.

"Will you always love me?" She asked out of the blue. Helmut was reading to her in their library as she sat in his lap. Helmut looked at her and smiled. He knew she knew the answer, but she wanted to hear it. She had to know for certain.

"You know I will. Always."

"Even if I'm evil?" She asked and looked up into his eyes.

"There is no such thing as good and evil. There are good actions and bad actions. Things that are necessary and unnecessary. No one is perfect. There is always a flaw." He explained. Katerina smiled, cuddled closer to her lover, and placed her head into the nook of his neck as he began to read again.

Katerina and Helmut were on their way to another HYDRA man's home in Los Angeles, going to find more about the mission and to end his life.

"I got you a present," Helmut spoke up as they walked to the jet. Katerina linked her arm with his as her heeled boots clicked along the landing strip where the private jet resided.

"You gift me too much." She giggled. Helmut shook his head.

"And how can I not spoil my queen?" He inquired. Katerina huffed playfully and walked up the steps of the plane after greeting Oeznik.

"So, what is this gift?" She asked, sitting down in her seat. Helmut grabbed a box and gingerly placed it in her lap. It had a dark purple bow on the top. Katerina opened the box and gasped when she saw what was inside.

It was two masks, both dark purple and had ridges running along in verticals lines. One of them covered the full head, and the other only covered the face with a band on the back.

"These are lovely." She whispered and picked up the one with the band on the back.

"That one is yours. A friend of mine from Mandripoor made them for us." He said, picking up the other mask. Katerina smiled widely and hugged him before putting the mark on her face. She felt powerful with it on. It fit her face perfectly, and she was excited to use it in missions.

"Thank you, darling." She said, reaching up to peck his lips. They smiled into the kiss, and when they pulled away, Katerina bit her lip to hide her smile. She still became giddy every time they kissed, and when they were close to each other, her stomach would flip and twist in delight.

"We're almost to our destination," Oeznik said after exiting the cockpit. The two lovers nodded and thanked the man before they got ready for their mission. It was a man named Cash Peterson. An American scientist that joined HYDRA years ago. He was recruited to try to make more of the serum, and Katerina and Helmut would not let that happen.
