THE DAYS TO FOLLOW WERE TERRIBLE. Harry had spent most of his time in the Hospital Wing fully recovering from the aftermath of the task. During this time Ron, Hermione, and especially Nyx were getting bombarded with people questioning them about the events of the Tournament at every turn. Cedric's death was a hot topic, people were making their own theories and assumptions and most of them painted Harry in a horrible light—all because of that Rita Skeeter article about him.

"I bet he murdered Diggory in cold blood," said Pansy Parkinson with her gang of Slytherin girls. She made sure to speak loudly so that Nyx and Hermione, who had been passing by, would hear her.

Nyx had come to an abrupt stop, stun around and marched directly towards Pansy grasping a fist full of the girl's hair and yanking her backwards.

"What did you just say?" Nyx asked in a dangerously calm voice.

"Nyx!" shrieked Hermione. "Nyx, stop it!"

"Let go of me!" said Pansy, struggling to pry Nyx's hand off her hair.

Nyx didn't want to, instead, she wanted to pull out all of Pansy's hair... maybe even break the girl's neck in the process. But what good would that do? Other than brief satisfaction and a bit of justice afterwards, Nyx wouldn't be any better off in life and so she released Pansy. Anger wasn't a trait Nyx enjoyed parading around, and given the fact that her lineage was no longer a secret— she was just giving people more reason to fear her.

"Potter's been teaching you a few tricks, hasn't he?" said Pansy scornfully.

"Don't get angry, just calm down," Hermione had a tight grip on Nyx's forearm so she wouldn't go feral on the Slytherin girl.

Nyx stared at her directly into Pansy's eyes, then she grimaced—she looked absolutely disgusted at the girl's mere presence and existence. Pansy blinked, a bit confused by the sudden emotional change. Hermione and Nyx rounded the corner.

The morning before Harry's release from the hospital wing Dumbledore spoke to the school. He had merely requested that they leave Harry alone, that nobody asks him questions or badger him to tell the story of what had happened in the maze. As a result, most people were skirting Harry in the corridors, avoiding his eyes. Some whispered behind their hands as he passed. The only semblance of normalcy was with Ron, Hermione, and Nyx. With Harry, the four of them talked about other things or let him sit in silence as they played chess (or in Nyx's case played with Poppy). The four of them had reached an understanding they didn't need to put into words; that each was waiting for some sign, some word, of what was going on outside Hogwarts— and that it was useless to speculate about what might be coming until they knew anything for certain.
