Mina was alone, she had been for the past 6 years, living out on the streets ever since her parents had died. Run over, mauled by another kitty! or ! puppy. That was the life she had been living. Constantly wondering where her next meal would come from, hiding out in shadowed alleys, waiting -- praying for the animal control workers to leave.
This was all she knew, she was born into it, after all, running, hiding, stealing, hoping for the best, preparing for the worst. She was used to it. What she was not used to, however, was the curious tabby who showed up at her doorstep.
She was obviously not a stray, given her silky dark brown hair, clean white hoodie, basketball shorts. And the little bell hanging from her matching white collar, which jingled around with her every movement.
Who was she? Mina had no clue, but she wasn't about to let this wandering softie into her home, which she worked so hard to protect.
It wasn't much, really. But it was the only place Mina could feel truly safe in, it was a small abandoned store next to a flower shop, they obviously didn't use it anymore, so Mina called it home. It was far enough away from the bustling streets and narrow alleys that no other strays came by, making it the best spot for her, since she wasn't much of a fighter, especially with how some of the other strays looked. She'd made her space out of old trash she'd find, discarded newspaper, stolen items, and other various objects that she had taken an akin liking to. Like the jasmines that the flower shop -- fleuriste -- left out in the back after a week or two.
The tabby edged forward, sniffing the air with a light hum, and Mina shifted from her spot, moving around so that she was now off to her side.
Mina wasn't the type of person to fight others, knowing if someone was coming for her to run and not get hurt instead of fighting for a place she didn't even like. But domestic kitties were different, softer. So maybe, she could confront her, scare her off.
Mina narrowed her eyes as she peered around, tail waving about as she peeked inside, quietly sniffing the air.
"Hey!" Mina hissed, standing up to the tabby, who leaped back in surprise. And Mina, pleased to find she was at least a little taller than her confronted the bell-wearer.
"Woah!" The tabby looked at her, taking a few steps forward, "So you're the one I picked up! You're really pretty! Why are you out here? Where's your owner?" She asked, and Mina stood there, dumbfounded. This kitty wasn't scared at all, she looked excited.
"I-, who are you?!" Mina asked, confusion written all over her face, but there was something else too, heart pounding, but not in a life-threatening kind of way. She wasn't used to this, someone who wasn't there to kill her or steal her food.
The tabby smiled, unphased by her demeanor, "I'm Dahyun! I just moved here since my owners got married, so I'm exploring!" She introduced herself, apparently very happy to be meeting someone new.
"Well-- explore somewhere else! This is my space." Mina tried toughening up, glaring at the tabby who only smiled back at her.
"Can it be mine too! I've never had an other kitty friend!" Dahyun the tabby asked, -- Mina almost choked.

And that's how Myoui Mina gained a friend.
Mina constantly declined, trying to tell her to leave, but the tabby -- Dahyun. Simply wouldn't leave, apparently set on exploring her new neighborhood, and hanging out with its residents. Which included the flower shop workers next door, who cooed and pet her, Mina trying to run away somewhere else to get away from her. Who showed up next to her a few minutes later.
"Hey, Mina! What other places should we look at? Oh! Do you know any cool spots? Can you show me?" She asked, and asked, begging Mina to reveal the coolest places to her.
How did she end up here, just an hour ago she was living peacefully tucked away in her home, living the best she had in years.
"Maybe you should go look at that fountain." Mina pointed over to a light stone fountain, a few benches lining its smooth exterior. Dahyun looked over and gasped, running to go look at her new discovery.
Mina, being a nice, civilized, person, ran away.
"Woah! Mina! It's so cool!" Dahyun's voice faded away as Mina left, running as fast as she could. She couldn't go back by the flower shop -- at least not now, but maybe she could take a different route.
Getting back into the town she slowed, catching her breath. With a quick glance back she let out a gentle puff as there was indeed no over-excited tabby chasing her, but that didn't mean there couldn't be anyone else.
Mina yelped as in a second's notice she was entangled in a net, writhing around on the ground she tried breaking free, only for a loop to wrap around her wrists, held by a man clad in a uniform she had come to hate.
Animal control, or in this case, the section that handled the hybrids. Whenever Mina saw them, they'd either be running after her or trapping a different hybrid, that always had to end up being the weaker ones.
Mina thought she'd never end up in their grasps, she despised the idea of ending up at an animal pound, having nowhere to hide as people peered in at her from metal bars.
But this day seemed to have many twists and turns, and now she was being taken from her home, thrown into a cage in a truck, and delivered off to who knows where.
