Just a brief warning I am from the UK, meaning I don't understand anything to do with USA college and I am making it up as I go along with town she lives in, I have just chosen Maine because when I googled it it said there was large forest coverage. It might be easier to read if you just go with it 😃

Rory POV

Living in Maine so far had been quite uneventful. It's only been 2 months but not much has happened. When I got here the first thing I done was stay at the closest hotel to the college I applied for that only lasted a week as I found an ad online for a guy looking for a roommate within a reasonable distance to the college. His name is Aaron and he's a complete asshole. You're maybe wondering why move into the apartment if the guy living there is such a dick? But the rent is cheap and I didn't want to stay in a hotel longer than 2 weeks. He's bare able I guess, it's just that he's quite cocky and flirtatious without the charm to make it into a delightful friendship.

After I settled down in my new apartment I went job hunting in town, I had printed off multiple copies of my resume and handed them into the businesses I thought looked like a good place to work. A few of them asked me general questions but didn't really go anywhere. Luckily on my 3rd day of searching I was offered an interview at a supermarket and thankfully it went well enough that they offered me the part time job.

College was going well also, I loved my lecturers and the classes. Growing up I wasn't sure what I wanted to do in life but I was always drawn to clothing, what really sealed the deal was when I would go to the theatre and concentrate more on the character's costume rather than the storyline.

Currently I was sat in my room trying to study but I kept finding myself being distracted by reorganising my room, I usually do that when I'm stressed and want to feel in control. After moving my bed to the opposite wall along with the bedside tables I decided I should go on a walk to clear my head and rid myself of the nervous energy I had.

I keep all my coats and shoes in my bedroom just to avoid spending too much time in areas of the apartment Aaron might be in. After getting myself decent enough to go outside I grab my phone, keys and headphones, take a deep breath and open the door. I'm met with silence. Maybe he's not home? Usually I can hear him yelling at his PC but today seems rather quiet. Automatically I relax a bit and start heading for the front door.

"Hey where are you heading off to in a hurry" damn. I was so close. I turn round to see him just come out of the bathroom and on first glance I can see his hands are bone dry. Gross.

"Just going on a walk" I mumble while putting my headphones on my head to indicate this conversation will not last longer than a minute.

"Sweet you want some company, it's getting late out you might need a big strong man to look after you" he smirks knowing that will annoy me.

"Well if you happen to find a 'big strong man' anywhere let me know" I mutter reaching for the door handle. Aaron just rolls his eyes at me and wanders off presumably back to his PC. Sometimes I catch myself thinking we could be friends until I remember him suggesting multiple times we should try lower the water bill by showering together and I physically shiver.

I take my first few steps outside my apartment building and then I stop realising I don't know my way around town at all. I smile slightly realising that will make the walk more interesting. Walking around the town looks so nice in the sunset lighting with the light breeze making the trees shimmering back and forth, kids run by me shooting water guns at each other. One misfires and misses the boy in front of me and the water goes directly onto my coat, the boy stares at me apologetically and just as I pause my music I hear him say "I'm really really really sorry I meant to hit hi-" but I cut him off with a friendly smile and tell him there's no harm done. He runs off with the two other boys and I continue my walk.
