Days pass, Darry tells the school that Ponyboy is sick so no one will know he's missing. Me and Dal are the only ones who really know about where they are. Two-bit tries to get information from Dallas so he lies about then maybe fleeing to Texas. Which Two-bit was very ready to leave and get them. Dallas shoots me a smirk and I hold back a smile since Two-bit would probably see he was joking.
Friday night I was sitting at the dining room table, Darry was at work and Soda was sleeping on the couch after work. Dallas just walks inside the house, I looked up to see him head to me. Soda woke up at the sound of the door and he slowly sits up, rubbing his eyes. "What's up Dal?" I asked. "We are going to check on Pony and Johnny." I instantly get up at his response and Soda stumbled to his feet. "What?" Dallas looks over at Soda. "Give him this." He walks to the kitchen and grabs a piece of folded up paper. He hands it to me. "Give it to Pony." He said before he hugs me. "I will. Tell Darry I'm with Dal and we are seeing Pony." I pull away and he nodded. I turned to Dallas. "Let's go." We walked to the front door, I grabbed my jacket and slipped it on before we leave the house. Dal's car was parked outside the house and we both get inside. I close the passenger side door and buckled up.
My anxiety was through the roof as Dallas drove us to Jay mountain. Which is why I was so quiet the whole ride there. Dal sees the fact I was so anxious and he started a conversation. "The soc that Johnny...killed was that red head's boyfriend." He said. I looked over at him. "I suppose she's free for you now." I said. He chuckled and shook his head. "She ain't my type." He drove with one hand on top of the wheel while the other one rested on his thigh. "Then what is?" I asked. "None of ya business." He said. I laughed. "Oh come on Dallas. Greaser girls like Sylvia and Sandy? Or girls like that red head, whatever her name was." I asked. "Cherry, her name was Cherry." He deflects my question. "Cherry. So she isn't your type?" I asked. He shook his head. "She ain't my type." And that was the end of it. We moved onto a different topic until we got to the church. "Jeez, looks like you can blow this place down with one breath." I get out of the car and Dal does too. "Yeah it's an old place." We both circled the church to find a place to enter. Peaking through the windows that were boarded up. We find a way in and I see pony and Johnny asleep on some old pews. I smiled but then my lips curl in a smirk. "Hey Dal" I whisper and point at Pony's hair. "Oh my God." He chuckled and walks over to him. Leaning over to wake him up. "Hey blondie." He grabs his hair. Pony woke up slowly. "Hey Dal." He said groggily. "How ya been?" He asked. "Hey Johnny, rise and shine man." He kicks the pew. Pony slowly sits up and I walk over to the pew. "Hey Pony." I smiled. He looks over at me and instantly gets up. "Peggy!" He tackles me with a hug and I hold him tight. "My God it's good to see you!" I ran a hand through his hair. "Look at this hair." I chuckled. He held onto me. "How's soda?" He pulls away. "Hey Dallas how are ya?" Johnny asked. "Is he pretty upset?" Pony asked me. "Is the fuzz after us?" Johnny asked. Question after question came from them. "Have ya heard anything?" Johnny rubs his head. "Wait one thing at a time." Dal said. "You guys hungry? Want something to eat? I'm starving man." He asked. "Your starving? Try having baloney for four days." Me and Dal laugh at Johnny's remark. "Hey you got a cancer stick Johnny?" Dal asked. "Uh yeah." I walked over to Johnny for one two. I hadn't had one in the past few days and I was itching for one. Johnny gets up and hands us each one. "Hey Peggy." He smiled at me and I pulled him into a hug. "Hey Johnny Cade. Glad you kept your hair the same." I chuckled. He pulls away and I walked to Dal. "We got a special delivery, for Ponyboy Curtis." He reminded me of the note I had from Soda. I pulled it from my leather jacket pocket and handing it to Pony. "Who's it from?" He asked taking it slowly. "Soda." I say. "How did he know I was here?" He asked. "He didn't. He wrote it and told us to bring it to you when Dallas picked me up to bring me here with him." I walked over to Dallas who was leaning against the wall. He lights his cigarette and he lights mine for me. I took a few puffs of it while Pony reads the note. "Hey Dal what's going on with the cops man you hear anything?" Johnny asked nervously. "How come you got hauled in?" Pony asked. I leaned against the wall. Dallas walks over to an old chair in the corner of the room. "Those boys down at the station know me by now." He sits down on one of the arms of the armchair. "While I was there they kinda beat it it of me that you guys were, get this one, you guys were on your way to Texas man. They think you guys are in Texas! Texas man! God!" Dal looks over at Pony who was slipping on his jacket. "Look at this guy with his hair man. I can't believe that." He looks over at me and shoots me a wink. I chuckled. "Blondie man." Dallas rubbed it in. I walked to Pony. "I know I look lousy, you don't need to rub it in." I put my hand on his shoulder. "Hey Pony you don't look lousy." I smiled. "Thanks Peggy." We all head to the door to get something to eat. "You guys wanna get something to eat?" Dal asked walking with me. "You better believe it. Let's get out of here."
