Dallas was able to leave the hospital. When he passed by my door, he stops and pokes his head in. "Hey Peggy I'm off." He walked inside and over to me on the bed. I looked up at him from my book. "Dally, please be careful." I reach up and grab his hand. "Don't worry Peggy, I'll be ok." He smiles at me before he gives my hand a reassuring squeeze. He leaves my side, my hand falling back into the bed. I watched him leave, he had on his jean jacket with a pare of jeans, no shirt and his usual necklace. My anxiety really was starting to act up. So trying to start reading again, failed me. I did realize I was a little tired. I laid down in my bed and curled up under the blankets. I managed to fall into a deep sleep. But the dream that meet me wasn't at all what I wanted to see.
It was the lot with the gang. Just my gang. No other greasers showed up. It seemed like all of the male socs in the town came to fight. Leaving my boys defenseless. I watched as each boy gets beaten to a pulp. My voice was gone. As much as I tried to scream, nothing came from my vocal cords. It was like they saved the boys who meant the most to me for last. I love the whole gang but they saved the worst for last. First Two-bit gets stabbed in the side, even though we agreed on no weapons. He crumpled over. Next was Johnny Cade. I tried to yell, warn him of the glass bottle being raised over his head but he soon fell to the ground. Steve was next. My best friend. He got ganged up on. Multiple socs beat him up to the point where I couldn't even recognize him. I felt myself start to cry, but still no sound came out. Soda gets stabbed multiple times, I tried to scream through my crying. He fell to the ground. Ponyboy went to attack the person who stabbed Soda just to get knocked out and suffocated with a cloth. Darry gets overcome by socs despite his strength. A soc wraps his arm around Darry's neck and began to choke him. Even though he thrashed around and pawed at the guys arm, he didn't let go. Darry passed out. Dallas seemed to be doing well. But then it all went down hill. A soc pulls out a heater and shoots at Dal. He dodged as many as he could but they get his legs and his side. He began to army crawl away. Towards me. I began to rush to him, reaching my arms out for him. But I seemed to be moving backwards. "Peggy..." he choked out. "Dallas!" My voice was almost gone. We made eye contact before he gets shot one last time.
"Peggy....Peggy....hey Pegg." I feel a hand on my shoulder, shaking me awake. My eyes began to slowly open. The dream was fresh in my brain and I was coping from it. My eyes open fully to see Dallas, blood on his temple. "Hey Dal..." I said sleepily with a light smile. After the dream my brain cooked up, it was nice to see his face. "Did we win?" I slowly began to wake up. Dal nodded with a smile. "Hell yeah we did." His hand was on my shoulder and he slips his other hand in mine. I smiled. "That's what I'm talkin about." I chuckled. I could see another figure in the corner of my eye. My head turns to see Pony on my bed. He wasn't as clean as Dally was. He had blood and bruises all over his face. "Oh Pony." I reached up with my hand and cupped his cheek softly. "I'm ok Peggy don't worry." He didn't look ok. "Is everyone else ok?" I asked. He nodded. "Everyone is alive and well. Beat up of course but alright." Dallas said. "Did Johnny fight?" I began to slowly sit up in my bed as I spoke. Dallas held my hand with both of his. "No he stayed at the house." Pony said. "Good. I don't want anyone else laying a hand on him after what happened." We all had grown protective of Johnny so I was justified in saying that. Dallas chuckled. "We should let you sleep." He stood from where he was kneeling. "Noooo don't goooo" I said slightly whining. Pony leans over and kisses my head. "See you soon Peggy." He said. Dallas gives me a quick hug. I caught of whiff of his scent. Cigarettes, old spice and beer. Other people would say he smelt bad, like a hood. But I loved his scent. He slowly pulls away. "Don't get into too much trouble while I'm here ok?" I said with a chuckle. "No promises." Dal winks before both of the boys leave. He's winked at me a lot lately. I'm not complaining, it makes my heart race for a moment. I lightly bite my lip. Remembering the feeling of his hands holding mine. It made my cheeks flush. I yawn as I began to feel more sleepy. Curling up back in my bed, hoping that I wouldn't have another bad dream now that I knew my boys were ok. Normally when I go to bed, my mind sometimes races. Not settling down for bed. Tonight was no different. Except I only was thinking about Dallas. His worried look after I got jumped, the pieces of hair that falls over his forehead, how we both goof around. I could tell I was getting more emotionally attached with him. We've grown together, gone through a lot together. I knew I got attached to the rest of the gang but it was different then my connection with Dallas. At least to me. For all I know, he doesn't like me like that. Or he isn't as attached to me as I think he is. I don't really think he's attached but I think he trusts me. I hope he does. He isn't one to trust people too often. I managed to get my mind back at ease before falling asleep.
