Chapter 1: I'll take the Punishment
For the second time that day (if it still was today and not yesterday). I woke up to the sound of arguing.
I opened my eyes to see a crowd surrounding a woman, watching as she beat and screamed at Ray and Sebastian. My head throbbed at the sound of the voices.
"Ray, you pigheaded fool, how dare you attack a poor, innocent woman defenseless and still delirious from a bite. Do you take pride in knowing you have hurt her?" The woman said. She rounded on Sebastian before Ray could defend himself, "And you... how dare you .... How dare you turn her-?"
Sebastian cut her off. "But, ma'am, you don't understand. She was dying because of-"
"I know full well as to why she was being murdered, but, if you think that for one minute you can do something that may bring harm or disruption to the coven without punishment and without my consent, you better hide." She growled.
"You will not undermine my authority. No one will, not even you, runt."
"That's not what I was trying-" Sebastian tried to tell her but she cut him off with a glare.
"Do not test me." She said icily pointing a finger at Sebastian while pushing him back with his finger.
I got up shakily, shifting my weight on my feet. "No, it's my fault." I said unsteadily. The woman that had once been screaming and yelling at Sebastian and Ray had whipped her head in my direction along with everyone else. "I begged him to. I didn't want to die. Please . . . don't hurt him." I said. The corners of my vision blurred. I had used all my strength to hold myself up and say those couple of words so now when I was finished, I crumpled to the ground.
The cold asphalt came in rough contact with my knees.
The woman watched me with open curiosity as did all the other people in the room.
She looked to be in her mid-twenties. Her eyes shone a deep violet-purple and were lit with an innocent intensity that made you question why you were arguing with her in the first place. Her hair looked like lion's fur instead of hair. Surely, she was pure muscle.
She looked confused for a second then smiled sadly. She didn't want to hurt anyone.
"You are strong and for that I commend you, but . . ." Her exterior cracked. "He cannot just go unpunished for his crimes. They will not allow it." The words came out in a whisper.
I wasted no time. "Punish me." I said firmly, staring directly into her eyes a truth dawned on her. She looked at me suspiciously.
The room went into a clamor.
People looked at me like I had grown a second head but I just stood up and let my determination show through by walking forwards and putting my hands out in surrender.
"I did not stutter. I will go peacefully so long as no one touches a single hair on Sebastian's head." I screamed.
I was scared they would ignore my plea and fear overwhelmed me but I did not back down. I was not like my father, letting people take pain in my place. I would not let them do what he would.
The woman's smile widened, somehow relieved but also regretful for me and my soon to be pain.
She fake coughed and the whole room went quiet.
"I will allow this girl to take Sebastian's punishment. 10 whippings with a fiery metal whip," and with that endearing thought she turn and spun out of the room taking the witnesses with her.
