Sadie James joined the Enterprise two years into it's 5 year mission so she was a little out of place. That wasn't the only reason, you see Sadie is the last decent of a witch by a similar name. By some miracle that is genetics Sadie inherited these powers where countless others didn't, these powers gave her two very distinct colour changing streaks. One day they could be white the next red, it just happens. These powers were hard to hide at times so when they got out of hand she would rearrange the schedule to be on the less busy nightshifts so she couldn't harm anyone. First couple of times not even eagle eyed Scotty noticed Sadie's absence from engineering. It took Bones only a few weeks to realise that Sadie avoided sick bay at all costs. "Hey Jim this new engineer Sadie James is it just me or is she really weird?" "I think she's kinda hot but she really is weird," "Hang on where is she?"
They peered around engineering and she wasn't there, "According to this chart she's not meant to be on a shift, what?" "Thats it Captains orders we are going to her quarters to check this out." The two officers raced down the halls following the weird noises that caught there attention, "Lieutenant James open up this is Captain Kirk and Bones!" Sadie looked around her messy room. Glass was shattered everywhere, furniture was turned upside down, her makeup was a mess and for sure she broke her finger falling out from under the some how alive rug. She heard them but she just couldn't answer, "Computer security override authorisation Kirk cruser 47," on cue the doors swung open to the mess it held. They saw Sadie picking up the items from around the room and setting them back where they belong. "Good god woman what happened here?" Bones gasped as the two men pushed a bookcase up off the floor, "I wouldn't come to close if I were you," she sneezed and books started flying off the shelves again, "Undo the horrors that have past return everything to there home with a blast," she called out over the chaos. Finally everything went back to the way it was. Using magic was extremely hard and often tiring so Sadie was gripping the window frame for support. "What the hell," "Get out of here before I ruin your 'perfect hair'," "Sadie what are you?" "I'm a witch who after having magic for over ten years still can't bloody hell control it!" She kicked the bed post trying to choke back the tears.
Bones noticed the many cuts and bruises across her arms and legs, he immediately got to work checking out the unusually deep one on her arm. "Bloody hell woman what happened to get this cut?" "You wouldn't believe me if I told you," "Try me," "Alright Fang? Fang here boy," out from under her bed comes tottering a leather skinned handbag with a tale and legs. There faces went pale at the sight, "Ow!" Kirk yelled kicking the handbag away, "Fang this is why I can't take you anywhere!" Sadie yelled picking the handbag up from the floor.
"Sadie what do you say tonight you come down to sickbay to get your injuries checked out I swear not many people will be awake and I'll be on my own in sickbay," Sadie had to agree as her arm was swore as hell.
Later that evening she snuck down to sickbay on her way she some how managed to deactivate the gravity. She got it back on pretty quickly especially before anyone noticed. "Sadie I'd wonder when you'd turn up," "Sorry I somehow deactivated the gravity so I had to turn it back on before anyone noticed," "Ah yes. I did some research throughout the afternoon and I came up with tips to help your magic. Basically they all said the more you practice the more control you'll have. Most importantly," he took her hands as he stepped closer, "Most importantly you can't be afraid. You can not be scared to let people see who you are," he pushed her hands to her heart before saying, "You find who you are in your heart and your blood." She smiled as he released her hands. She drew a deep breath and let go. The white walls faded away from around the two as the vivid colours of the stars surrounded them. Every star glowed bright in the broad galaxy.
Bones looked just as shocked as her. He turned to her just as amazed as he was, "Are you doing this?" "Yeah I am," her smile was big and bright. They looked down and they were standing on the top of the Enterprise as they cruised the Galaxy. "Lets go home Sadie," she nodded and brought them back to the brilliant white walls of sickbay. "Okay start simple make the tricorder levitate," Bones said pointing out the discarded device, after a few attempts she tried to give up but Bones pressed her to keep trying. Attempt 48 and she finally got it to lift ever so slightly, she was very out of breath. "You okay Sadie?" "Yeah magic takes a lot out of you. Anyway I'm going on shift and I'll see you later," she waved goodbye. Almost immediately after entering the bridge with her assignment Jim turned to face her with his wide grin plastered on his perfect face.
"I guess Bones talked you into practicing your magic?" He gestured to your hands still being glitchy, "Yeah I can now lift items without having them fly across the room, see," she levitated the screw driver off the floor, "Okay try and use it to unscrew the panel," "Jim I'll break your ship," "You won't because you'll fix it otherwise," he gave her a weird look so she knew he was telling the truth, "Okay." She steadily twisted the screwdriver and unhinged the panel, "I did it!" "Now try and fix the panel," Sadie knew this would be trouble but she refused to let it show. Surprise surprise it sparked and almost went boom! Jim and Sadie were laughing there heads off as Sadie got to work manually fixing the panel. "Jim can you do me a favour?" "Yeah what is it?" "Can you pass me the scanner?" "Sure," he threw her the scanner as he cracked another bad joke. This went on till they both departed for the night.
As soon as Sadie hit her pillow she was gone, she felt drained from all the magic she'd used. She didn't end up waking up till lunch time. When she did she spotted the old trunk at the bottom of her wardrobe, of course it was the trunk her ancestors left her. It was filled with the riches of her culture. She turned the clean unloving rooms into a mysterious nature aesthetic, it was very hippy and boho but it felt like home. The window sills were lined with different crystals and small plant pots. She lined the bookshelves with books of witchcraft and her unique culture. Sadie looked down to realise she was still in her pyjamas. First thing she did was slip into a greyish green dress and her black star fleet jacket.
She looked in the mirror, she was fed up with being so plain, so unnoticeable. She clipped her dusty dark blonde hair back with a crescent moon with dangling elements.
Next she slipped on a hand bracelet on her right hand and two rings on her left. Her favourite one that looked like the federation logo and a sunset like orange stone.
Something still wasn't right. She glanced to the jewellery box to her left, it was a little dusty but it was old. Inside she found a leather choker with a hoop at the centre and a dangling pendant in the shape of a crescent moon with a blue stone centre. Sadie kicked on black trainers before leaving her newly loved quarters.
Everyone noticed Sadie now. No one missed a glance, they now noticed something about her no one ever did before. Even Bones and Jim had to do a second glance at the woman claiming to be Sadie. "Sadie wow you look, well amazing," Jim gasped. He examined her new look from head to toe with a well practiced glance, "Thank you Jim. You and Bones are really helping," she rolled her palm showing off the small twinkles of magic, then Sadie slipped and the twinkles escaped enchanting a nearby toolbox. The thing grew legs and a mouth, Jim and Sadie exchanged glances as the box wandered to the bridge. Frantic they raced after this toolbox Jim yelling at Sadie to un-enchant it before it gets to the bridge. The box makes it onto the bridge to the shock of Spock, Sulu and Chevok, "Why is the toolbox walking?" "Blame Sadie not getting her spell right," "Hey it wasn't a spell it was an accident, now toolbox come here!" She yelled clicking for it to come to her feet. It plotted to her feet where she picked it up and turned it into an ordinary toolbox again. "Curious I don't know what exactly you are Sadie," she froze and exchanged glances with Jim, "Why don't I show you Spock?" "Bones told me you did this and I want to see this," the two men watched the walls of the Enterprise disappear and the stars brighten.
Jim stared at the stars around them as they glowed brighter than they had ever scene. Now they all knew the truth...
