Chapter 11: The Next Day

"Wake up, get up, come on, we don't have all day!" Her mom yelled, clapping all through the house then beating on Devanne's door. Before Devanne could flinch to let her in, her mother had already plowed into her room.

"All day for what, it's still five A.M. mom!" Devanne said, setting up and rubbing her eyes.

"Today is the day!" Her mother squealed, still not informing Devanne what day it was.

Devanne wiped her eyes and then looked at her clock.

0000d 07h 53m 23s.

Oh. My. Goddess. Of. Cranberries.

She was so excited that she jumped out of bed and over to her desk to do the math.

She would meet him at lunch which was around twelve something.

It was already hours away and she already couldn't contain her excitement any longer as her mom watched her jump around with a smile, her hands to her mouth, and tears at her water line.

"Honey, you need to get ready, save all of that excitement for later," her mother said, right before Devanne attacked her with a hug, almost knocking her down. Then she went to give her dozing dad in the recliner, trying to watch T.V., a back breaking hug. He jolted awake and didn't know what was going on as he was getting attacked by his daughter. It took him a minute before he hugged her back and smiled.

"Congratulations honey!" He said happily then she ran back to her mom, ascending the stairs eagerly.

"What do I need to do first?!" She asked eagerly, and her mom smiled.

"Well I woke you up this early so you could get a shower then I can do your hair, but I would like for you to eat first," her mother said. She rushed into the kitchen expecting to eat some cereal or fix her a plate of whatever was cooked, but when she got in there, surprisingly her plate was already fixed with the best breakfast food there ever was to ever exist.

She hesitantly sat down, and looked around to see if anyone else was going to eat or if it was just her.

"It's all yours for now, we're all going to eat later and before you chow down, thank your father for all of the food," her mother said coming into the kitchen and her dad following in behind her.

"Yep, don't forget!" He chirped and poured his cup of coffee.

"Thank ya daddy!"

"No problem sweetie, wouldn't leave you hungry on your special day," he said ruffling her nappy hair. It didn't bother her, she was gonna have to brush it out again anyway.

She then turned to her plate full of breakfast food. It had two chocolate chip waffles loaded with maple syrup, egg, and some pieces of bacon. The ideal perfect breakfast for her, the way she liked everything.

"I wonder how long it took them to make this and what time they had to wake up to do all this?" She asked herself.

"I better be grateful for all of this."

"Come on sweetie, we don't have all day just to stare at it and drool if you want to look good," her mother said, and laughed at Devanne as she realized she was just setting there with her fork in the air.

She slowly nodded and started to cut her waffles.
----------------------------------------------
She had finished her eggs, and one of her waffles before she was full.

"Are you full sweetie? If you are, then feed the rest to Kisses," her dad said, referring to their solid white pit bull named Kisses. She got up and fed it to Kisses, watching her inhale the rest of it.

"Now go get in the shower," her mother said, and Devanne nodded then went back up the stairs, suddenly heaving and out of energy.

She grabbed her things, already seeing what her mom had out and was still sticking to her plan in changing as soon as she got to school before that many people saw her.

She jumped in the shower, taking her sweet little time as it was only still 5 something in the morning.

She showered thoroughly, and hopped out to get ready for her very important day that she was only half way ready for.

She got out and went to her room to just stare at the dress that her mother picked out. She dreaded to put it on, but had to anyway.

She put on the floral dress, but made sure she had her regular clothes in her P.E. bag. Then she came out of her room, and down the stairs to fetch her mom.

"Honey! You look great!" Her mother exclaimed happily, Devanne tried her best to smile.

"Eh," Devanne said under her breath.

Her mother then drug her into the bathroom, and made her stand still.

"Look at you, you look great!" Her mother said and shook her shoulders as if to get it through her head, but Devanne just shrugged, again. Her mother rolled her eyes and turned on the curler so she could curl her hair after she brushed it out and dried it.

When she was done, honestly, Devanne was amazed and really liked it but she wouldn't tell her mother that.

When her mother got done with her hair, Devanne wanted to do her own makeup, but her mother quickly took over that station as well and painted her face with so many different things that she couldn't keep up with it all and was sure she would look like one of those girls that tried too hard. That's one thing she was sure she'd look like, not wanting to look like it.

When she was done, Devanne didn't look fake, she looked great. It blended well but the closer you looked, the more you could tell there was a lot that went into it; she didn't even recognize herself.

"You look gorgeous!" Her mother squealed, clapping her hands together excitedly, and Devanne tried her best to not show her annoyance.

"I don't know why you're saying that if you did all of this yourself."

"Not all of it because you wouldn't let me do all of it."

"There's a reason too," Devanne mumbled under her breath, glad that her mother didn't hear.

"Ok, are you ready?" Her mother asked and she nodded then gathered her things before following her mother to the door. Her dad gave her a hug and ranted at how she was growing up too fast for him. She liked to have never gotten him to let her go and stop his crying. She felt bad about it though, and bad that she couldn't do anything about it for it to help him in the way he needed it to.

She got in the car and rode the short ride to school in suspenseful silence. In a way, she was still excited but most of her energy was blown out the window from all the excitement earlier this morning, so now she was tired.

"I know you'll have a nice day so call me when you meet him, bye, love you honey!" Her mom said after Devanne pecked her cheek and got out of the car. She shut the door before walking up to the building with a huff, still not ready.
